1911 Perfection with PM-9 Dan Wesson

I bought a PM9 in May to use for IPSC Classic division. I have just a shade under 10,000 rounds through it so far and it has been awesome. I added a few things out of the box like you mentioned, magwell, ambi safeties etc but its a great platform for a classic division gun. Zero issues with it so far.

Can I ask what load you are using. I am not having too much luck today so far with 147gr bullets. At 900 fps they are all over at 20 yds. Ha, I ordered the same Magwell.

I shoot campro 147 grain over 3.5grn of n320, very accurate and soft shooting. Chrono around 890fps

Gorgeous pistol, awesome pic mind if I save it as my desktop pic?

Sure no problem

Could you tell, what is a weight of gun after ambi safety and mag well added ? What magwell did you put ?

Not sure on the weight, I don't shoot USPSA and IPSC has no weight limit. I used the Dawson IPSC magwell, I have it on all of my competition guns, it works awesome and is easy to get in Canada, Freedom Ventures stocks them.

Yes Dan Wessons have better fit and finish than factory STI that's why I had to have the Specialist...

I own a couple of STI's as well, and I have found the fit/finish and overall quality of them to be very comparable.

Very nicely done! I've used my 9mm Specialist for IPSC Classic as well; no ambi safety - is there a specific reason you added one for competition? Maybe I'm missing something obvious lol.

Ambi safety is for weak hand stages, I just prefer to be able to manipulate the safety with my weak hand, I use it as a thumb rest when shooting weak hand as well.

I apologize to the OP, I didn't mean to hijack your thread lol

OK thanks, I've just been hitting the safety prior to hand swap. But I'm def not all about the speed lol; but I digress again...returning OP to origionally scheduled topic :) .

No, I'm enjoying reading all the comments. I have a load worked up for 147gr bullets that is super accurate but on the high end at 946 fps. I'm going to try a different powder since the whole idea was to get a lighter load than factory. I also just installed the Dawson Magwell and it is amazing. It's like a friggen magnet that just sucks the mags in. I did a little trigger work and its now a nice crisp 1 3/4 lbs. I might go back up to 2 but its so sweet. I have a light finger so it doesn't seem that light.

I just smile every time I work the slide. It is so smooth now and only 200 rounds through it. It is like greased butter. It even sounds incredible. Next step is to Cerakote the controls . I already Cerakoted the new hogue grips black and it is getting gorgeous. I want it as nice as Slim Tim's. Not sure I can match his photography though. Keep it going. 1911 love.

Next: fitting the ambi safety and lower power hammer spring.

A friend in my club has a PM 9.I was really impressed with the fit and finish, just as good as my Les Baer and better than my STI.Considering that they sell for way less than both of those, they are a really good deal(still not cheap tho!).Im tempted to get one for myself.

Very nice acquisition, Frank. I have wanted a DW 1911 for a long time, I seem to be stuck living through everyone else's pictures and stories of joyful ownership. I guess I should get you some of that 9mm brass I picked up, I think you're going to need it. :)

I'll take all you care to part with. Im now shooting one revolver, three regular semi auto's and one open gun in 9mm. I'm going through brass like water.
