You will probably find that a 9mm top end wont go on a .45 frame unless you change the .45 ejector on the top of the frame to a 9mm ejector.
Other than that, if you are working with a complete top end, it should work.

One time I had three 45acp non-1911s on the work bench, a Norinco Commander, a Norinco double-stack and a Para Ordnance double-stack. I was curious if the short Norinco slide would fit on the fat Norinco frame, and vice versa. The answer is yes and yes. The limitation is the length of the rails on the two frames. The conventional 1911 frame has a long rail on each side, but the fat frame has two sections each in front and behind the magazine well. Not necessarily as strong on recoil. My .02-cents.

I’ve tried swapping out the slides on my various STI 1911s with no success. They just don’t fit.
