1911's Pics Thread

I've heard good things about the Norc Commanders. Any issues with yours? Excessive wear on barrel link or lugs?
I've owned this Norc commander since new. Only changed out the trigger, grips & ditched the weird factory extended slide stop for a standard one. Has shot like a champ right outta the box!

Well, if one is to bastardize the model, I think JMB would only approve if the platform were actually improved.

Interesting guns. Hard to get parts for, have a buddy with a LH version and he's still hunting for an ambi safety. If you look at some of Coonan's load data, he ran some fierce loads through his guns. - dan

Yes, I was pretty much aware that it was someone's custom back in the day. My bubba comment was the ruining of a piece of Canadian history in doing so. A "C" prefix, Colt commercial, was likely one of the Canadian contract Colts that saw WWI service.

Would be akin to someone in the USA taking a WWII Union Switch & Signal or Singer 1911A1 & using it to make a 'race gun'. :(

Conceded, but back in the '50s-'70s the worldview was a lot different toward milsurps.

Definitely bastardized as they are linkless, but they are nice shooters. Remarkably reliable for a long rimmed cartridge.

If you want to stay closer to the 1911 heritage but take it to the next level... the LAR Grizzly is also quite something. The 45 Win Mag actually started as a Canadian concept - the 45 NAACO.

Gunbroker have a few for sale, if you have the cash. (...and if we didn't have a pussified government.)

I had a Nork Commander that Gunnar had worked over. Man it was sweet, wish I never sold it. The Nork 1911's I think were the best bang for buck pistol ever to hit the Canadian market.

The overall finish plan is hard-chromed slide flats, stainless controls, everything else including the upper slide round, radius/recoil-spring tunnel and cocking serrations a metallic or pearl dark teal. I was specifically instructed by my gal that if I expect her to fight with the import process bringing the thing home with her and giving it the care a "lifetime's work" project deserves after I buy the farm, it needed to have aesthetic artistry to match the mechanical side.

EDIT: No fresh pic, but partially assembled for trials the barrel does go into link-up when hand cycling. Once I have the lugs fine tuned for it to drop free into link-down, I'll start tweaking the barrel-links. Good news is in link-down position it already looks like the lower lug and ramp are where they need to be, so two less things to worry about. That then will just leave polishing out the Idiot Marks, fitting the ejector and firing pin stop, and installing the ignition system.

Then the REAL hard part, adjusting the overtravel stop on the trigger and having to tear the whole bloody thing apart every pass to tweak it.
