1911's Pics Thread

I am glad there are more guys out there putting these classic 1911's back to GI spec.

Here are the latest abominations to relegated to the hall of shame. Plus a look into the Pocketfisherman cave with the next Garand rescue in progress.

Ah, the internet.

Cyril William Upton Chivers (1879-1969)
Architect, war hero.

Born at Chislehurst, Kent, England, he came to Winnipeg in 1898 and worked with the Engineering Department of the Canadian Pacific Railway. He helped to survey many of the railway lines from Winnipeg to the West Coast. In 1906 he left the railway to work as an architect. During World War One he served overseas with the First Canadian Mounted Rifles and rose to the rank of Brigade Major with the Ninth Canadian Infantry Brigade. He was decorated with the DSO and MC and was mentioned in despatches. On returning to Winnipeg after the war he formed the architectural partnership of Northwood and Chivers.

On 30 January 1907, he married Frances Anna Simpson (1882-?), daughter of F. G. Simpson. They had three children: Margaret, John A. Chivers, and Cyril Douglas Chivers (1912-2004). He was a Charter Member and Fellow of the Royal Architectural Institute of Canada, Honorary Life Member of the Manitoba Association of Architects, Life Member of the Engineering Institute of Canada, and a Life Member of the Manitoba Club.

He died at Winnipeg on 9 August 1969 and was buried in the St. James Cemetery.

Thank you Winnipeg Free Press, and Google.

Wow!, good research work on your part. Do you know what's the story of the gun between Mr.Chivers and you?

Thanks for sharing his story with us

not yet, want to contact the seller this week about that. need to call him about the transfer of my new ithaca anyway :dancingbanana:

would it be improper to try to find family members to ask if they have anything of his from the era? not to "treasure hunt", but it would be cool to do something like get a picture of him in uniform, etc.

I think they'd rather be pleased to see the interest you have for Mr. Chivers and his accomplishments. It all depends on how you approach them, it cost nothing to try anyway. Keep us posted

Good luck

Kevin, I never thought of waffle cone.. When I first got the grips I thought about those chocolate wafer cookies I used to have as a kid, the strawberry and chocolate ones...

Ghwysow, I like them so far. Abrasive enough to hold on to without mangling your hands, and with gloves on, it locks the pistol in tight.

Another project showed up in the mail today...

I knew it was rough when I bought it (over the phone), but wow.

If I can get it to function properly, I think I'll refinish it and use it as a beater.

And, my other project that showed up today. Bought from the ee, i want to swap original parts back onto it, and get it re-blued. Also looking to get rid of the grips it came with (no offense to the previous owner).

Hey dude,

You should be able to pick up a Ithaca slide in the US for that beast. The frame around the trigger guard needs metal back on where someone did some bubba work. But it is savable.

EDIT
