1917 film due for release soon

Rifles were only a few years old if not brand new in 1917, so they should not look like a 100 year rifles like the one we see now. Also the trenches were well done, British quick construction and a bit haphazard and the German one well ingineered and solid construction. Allied trenches were only temporary, German ones were built for the long haul since they were conquering territory.

As for the plausibility of the plot: no, not really (couldn't the message have been delivered by aircraft?) but I kind of enjoyed it for what it was, which is a quest narrative that needs a bit of suspension of disbelief.
This is where it lost me a bit. They knew where the Devons were and could have dropped a message to them.

I havent seen it yet, but have seen the previews all over the internet.

"If they dont deliver their message, it will be a massacre...."

I kept thinking...."lol, like the rest of the war wasnt??!"

I'll watch it just because it's a war flick. I even enjoyed "Passchendaele". Great love story.

Only war flick I should have walked out on was "Dunkirk", but I kept on hoping that it would get better. It didn't.

I'm still choked about the burning Spitfire on the beach with no engine.

I realize it's not that kinda show, but they fired all of maybe 8 rounds out of Lee's throughout the entire quest. All good, was just hoping for more lead throwing lol.

Yes, that was terrible.

The movie trailer explains the need to get a message to the unit. I keep thinking "Airplane drop? Pigeon? Telephone? Flashing light?"

I agree. Dunkirk was the worst big money war movie I’ve had the disinterest to see. It’s on Netflix now and I have no interest in revisiting it.

B.O.R.I.N.G!!

It’s an artsy movie. Imagine an entire war movie without clearly seeing a German soldier.

I saw Dunkirk in the theatre and my first reaction was disappointment. Later when it came out on TV, I watched again (understanding now that the time line was not linear) and enjoyed it much more.
1917 was an awesome movie, saw it with an old army buddy and we both commented on things that I won't spoil here on this forum. We gave it two thumbs up!

Had a chance to watch it last night.

Its a great story, awesome cinematography...

The only thing that irked me is when they crossed the german trenches and not even 300 yards later through a small forest was untouched lush green fields. Puhlease....the ground would have looked like no mans land for miles after the first line of trenches...

I'm not sure that's true. It would depend where, when, and whether the germans had ever been pushed out if that stretch of trench by an offensive.
