1917 US Remington 30-06

Everyone made them

I have a 1917 US Remington in 30-06 cal In excellent Condition it Has a 26 " Barrel on it.Was there Many Made , and is worth Much? or Trade Value?

During WWI the British couldn't make enough of their .303 Enfields, so they contracted out to manufactures in the US like Remington, Eddystone, and Winchester to produce their rifles (P14). The Americans they got involved in the war and seeing as they were set up for this rifle they produced their own in 30.06 and designated it as M1917 (P17 in the colonies) Legend has it that Sgt. York used an M1917. It wasn't long ago that .303 round was still using cordite, which is really corrosive, and the 30.06 used smokeless powder. So barrel pitting isn't so much of an issue with the M1917. Winchesters are very desirable, followed by Remingtons and then Eddystones. All are great shooters. I love my Remington.

Were there many M1917's made? Only 2,202,429
Eddystone(remington); 1,181,908
Winchester; 465,980
Remington (illion N.Y. plant) 545,541

Of course the British didn't get much use of P14's in WW1, BUT they were glad they had them in the second test match with adolph. Most went through the Weedon repair centre when they knew the war was coming

The Lend lease M1917's went mostly to the Home Guard
The P14's were issued to the Army.
A total of 1,117,850 P14's were produced

Just an add. The Remington Model 30 Sporting rifle was made from parts left over from WW1. The "ears" were ground off the reciever, the rifle blued, and a sporting stock was used. There were so many parts left over from WW1 production that the model 30 continued to be sold until 1940
