-- 1919a6 -- I want one --

No limit on belt capacity, since it's an OLD gun (don't know the formal expression ;))

CanAm, if you found one in 762x39 i'm sure we could get rid of a few green wodden boxes... ;)

the belt is ok. the links is a NO-NO. can only load them to five. stupid i know but thats what the CFC explained to me. they could be wrong but i didn't have the engery to go into it deeper. i just eneded up buying several 250 rouind belts. (BTW without a belt loader they suck to load)

reference is as follows:
Re: Former Cartridge Magazine Control Regulations (exemptions)
(f) is of the "belt" type consisting of a fabric or metal belt, is not a reproduction and was originally designed or manufactured for the purpose of feeding cartridges into a automatic firearm of a type that was in existence before 1945.

These are neat guns. One gun can be converted to 30-06, 308, 8mm, 7.62x39, etc. The guys at 1919A4.com have been working on kits for the x39 for a while now. They seem to have solved it as I saw them advertised in SGN. Now I wonder whether they will work with RPD belts?

Is the auction price the going price on these guns. I am also interested. Any idea of other costs? Belts, barrels, etc.

Steve.

The 30-06 metallic links would be exempt; they are for a gun made before '45. I think the links people are talking about which would not be exempt from the cartridge restrictions is the Isreali .308 links. They were made for a gun (the .308 variant) which was not produced until after 45. But if you can make the 30-06 links work with your .308 (and you can), then they would be exempt as well.
Note that the belt or links don't have to be pre 45, just the gun they were origionally made for.
I personally use the cloth belts. Although origionally meant for the 30-06, they are OK once they stretch.

Since when did the 5rnd mag limit apply to links? THEY ARE EXEMPT! The link is not a magazine under defintion. The CFC obviously doesn't read the laws very well or are trying to invent them.

well i be with you drinking on friday so you might be able to convince me.......

Not an MG42 but a good-old-american-made Browning 1919! To be precise, a 1919A6, the attempt by the US army to make a portable medium machine-gun... Basically, a 1919 with a bipod and a shoulder stock!
