We are trying to put back together an old carbine in 25-35.
The serial number has just crossed over the seven digit mark. 1,004,###.
Trying to find the proper wood for it, front and rear.
Was in a scabbard and the story goes that the saddle slipped under and
the dasterd four legged creature spooked. All is well in the four legged
department but the old Winchester took a beating.
It has been apart for so long now that the original wood is gone and an after
market replacement not yet installed is in the box of parts.
Trying to locate some proper timber for it.
I believe if memory serves me correct, short wood in front of barrel band.
Don't know if the rear was cresent or flat style???
Is there anywhere on this electronic world one can find age specific photos?
Or maybe recommend a good book for the same?
Went to the local library and couldn't find anything relevant.
Thanks for any help in advance.
