We are trying to put back together an old carbine in 25-35.
The serial number has just crossed over the seven digit mark. 1,004,###.
Trying to find the proper wood for it, front and rear.
Was in a scabbard and the story goes that the saddle slipped under and
the dasterd four legged creature spooked. All is well in the four legged
department but the old Winchester took a beating. :(
It has been apart for so long now that the original wood is gone and an after
market replacement not yet installed is in the box of parts.
Trying to locate some proper timber for it.
I believe if memory serves me correct, short wood in front of barrel band.
Don't know if the rear was cresent or flat style???
Is there anywhere on this electronic world one can find age specific photos?
Or maybe recommend a good book for the same?
Went to the local library and couldn't find anything relevant.
Thanks for any help in advance.

If you still have the butt plate, the stock shape will be easy.

Other than that, Winchesters could be ordered in a lot of different configurations in the early years. Chances are it's not a special order though, and as such, maybe the best idea is to try and locate a company sales catalog for that year. That would at least tell you the available configurations at that time.
When searching for older rifles on the internet, sometimes it pays to search for them as the 94, and also as the 1894

I have a 1927 Winchester 94 in 30-30 closely related to yours.

Serial number in the 999,### range.

Bottom one. Flat butt plate. Short magazine tube.

Crazy davey, I felt that smile....:p
iceman2, sorry not mine, just trying to help a friend out.
WT, you got me thinking on that slight cresent butt??? Same as cresent butt?
MD, thanks for the photos....nice collection.
The buddy's missus says full length tube mag and a small saddle ring??? I'll have to wait for it to show up, if and when??
Just trying to get a jump start. I found a book by Arthur Pirkle.....Winchester Lever Action Repeating Firearms, Volume 3 and it deals with the 1894 (94) and the 1895's. Shows one butt plate with a roll over at the top in an arrow type style. Haven't seen this one before. Too bad this book is out of print.
Again, thanks for the info.
