Without a doubt, that is the most nicely figured wood if seen on a K98 I can remember. Wish my '41 Port' had such nice wood. Here's pic of 2 I've owned. Sold the top one and still have the blond. It's un-issued and about 98%+.

Bah! Humbug! I am going to toss mine in a dumpster! Or maybe I'll "sporterize" it. Yeah! That's what I'll do! Where's my hacksaw and sidegrinder. Do they sell Tapco stocks for 1941's?

Merry Christmas people!!!!!

Sorry, kjohn, I have to play along...

Here's my Port '41, very low number H-block rifle:

TsK! Tsk! Look at all the flaws in that wood grain.

Why, that stock would probably shatter under heavy recoil.

Seriously though, that is one fine looking rifle.

Is that the one that sold from Armco in PG?

Nice score, I sure wish I'd seen it first.

Don't even joke about it. I would've taken yours without hesitation. Just not that easier to find.

Boas Festas e Feliz Ano Novo

Do you think coating it with bedliner will help stave off the cracks? :)

Yes, this is the rifle that Armco sold a while back. I feel very fortunate to have lucked into it. Although I've been fondling it, I have yet to get it out shooting... I still haven't put together all the pieces to reload for 8x57 --- I think the only thing remaining is a set of dies. So hopefully this Spring.

 Wow!!!! Now there are some beauties coming out of the closets! If some of these gorgeous rifles are owned by the younger generation, just think of the stir they will cause a generation from now!

I was digging around in my junk last night and found a Model 1922 Brazil FN that I'd sort of forgotten I had. So then I kind of looked all the shorter Mausers over and found some others that I bought when "them old army rifles" weren't so much sought after. Old kjohn has some real goodies tucked away. I have never considered myself a "discerning collector", and still don't. I still buy what catches my eye. I wouldn't turn my nose up at another person's collection, no matter what it consisted of. I blundered on my SAT barreled Mosin Nagant years ago, mostly because I liked the imposing look of the old M91's and other models similar.

I can't actually recall making any clear plan to collect any one line of rifle. I have Mausers, Mosin Nagants, Lee Enfields, Ross, plus others. All good stuff as far as I'm concerned. I appreciate another person's enthusiasm when they show me their treasures. It matters not whether it is a "run of the mill" or a scarce item. It is the electricity in the air that I like!

Good stuff here. Keep posting those pics and stories! This is part of what modern day collecting is - sharing stories, pics, and our thoughts.

By itself, the bedliner probably wouldn't be enough. You'd probably want to epoxy at least one layer of fiberglass cloth around the stock first for some added reinforcement.

I saw a thread about your rifle right after you bought it.

I was very envious and wondered who the lucky guy was that scooped it up.

I'm glad that it went to a good home with somebody who appreciates it.

I actually have about 65 rounds of Portuguese FNM 7.92x57mm that a friend gave me.

Let me tell you, that stuff is hot!

What kind of condition is your Brazilian FN Model 1922 in?

Those certainly seem like interesting rifles and I really like the 7x57mm round.

It is hard to beat an Oberndorf Mauser though.

I have a Brazilian Model 1935 long rifle in fantastic shape. About the only thing I'd like better would be a Brazilian Model 1935 short rifle in mint shape.

If only affordable guns were built to the same standards today.

Right on! That just reminded me that I have a good stash of that FNM 8x57 that I had shipped from good old SIR back in the 70's. Really nice ammo.

My FN 1922 is in pretty nice shape, mostly matching, IIRC. I also rediscovered an very nice TGF 1950, probably unissued. :p

I had to look up the TGF 1950. Oh man! What a nice rifle!

Someday, I'd like to find one of them (and a 1941 Portuguese) in pristine condition.

I'll bet you got that FNM ammo dirt cheap, eh?

A friend in the GVRD gave me one of those boxes of 80 rounds as a present and we shot off 15 rounds of it.

What a kick that stuff has!

Prvi Partizan makes a 8x57mm 198 gr. FMJ round that would probably be real close to the military load, but I haven't seen anyone in North America carrying it.

Prvi also makes a 7x57mm 173 gr. SP load that is very close to the old Spanish load. It is much easier to find over here and it hasn't been watered down at all.

That's another reason why I like the 7x57mm cartridge so much.

I gt that heavy-load Partizan ammo from Wolverine, just 4 miles from here.

They have a sub-forum here, under dealers. Send them a message, find out about case-lots or whatever.

It is GREAT brass for reloading, too. Trade-Ex has the slugs.
