Good on the seller, and thanks for the education. Very interested to hear what SAGE has to say.

So you said you used all of them I am curious as to why you prefer the Sage over the Blackfeather?

I prefer the Sage visually. It also just feels right to me both in my hands as well as shouldered. I’m sure I could have the Blackfeather feel just as good shouldered by swapping out buttstocks to find what feels right but for me the Sage feels right straight out of the box. I’m 6’7” 240lbs and physically active so the weight differences are secondary to me.
It may not be the first choice for me for all scenarios but in my dreams it always about defending a stationary position from zombies! Lol

The Blackfeather in the photo is my cousins. The norinco in the wood is unfired and is going stay that way for now anyways.

Well I bet the weight is less of an issue for you then me on top of my 5 foot 8 hahahah

After comparing the two chassis’ in front of me very closely there is only one difference I can find besides the extra metal and weld differences above the grip.
The chassis with the extra metal and welds has the digits AC8 stamped on the bottom immediately in front of the mag well.
The my other one has the stamp AF3 on he bottom immediately in front of the magwell...

I’ve already told the seller that I’ll keep the chassis. Still waiting to hear back from Sage as to why some or welded like that some are not makes no sense to me at the moment.

how many Fasteners hold your top rail section to the lower? I think it may be a first or second gen thing. mine has 6 fasteners

Both chassis I have here have 5 upper handguard screws. One chassis is welded and one is not. Another difference between the two is that the stock rails and piece of metal under the rubber butt pad have almost a sandblasted texture where as the non welded one has more of a polished look to the metal

so to get your image to load, use a different URL.
go to imgur where your pic is, right click anywhere on the picture and select the option to "view image" (i use firefox browser so the wording might be slightly different on chrome or internet explorer)
when you select that option, notice the URL at the top will end in the .jpg
use the .jpg URL

edit- also that really sucks this happened to you man. hopefully things work out

I remember a case where an importer had to modify some grey market sage product to satisfy import regs or something along those lines. It had something to do with the buttstock assemblies.
Perhaps we are scratching the surface of that here?

anyone remember what I'm talking about?

The extra metal plate has obviously been welded in there for a reason, but I agree it kills the overall appearance. The amount of aluminum right above the grip is fairly thin is a couple spots on the non welded version. Perhaps sage did a run with the extra plate welded in at a customers request to strengthen that area up more and the leftovers of the run were sold to the public. Who knows... I still havnt received a reply from them.
The one that’s currently listed on the EE is the one I bought. The ad hasn’t been edited properly to be removed. Welded or not, it gets m1As where I want them to be.

And now for Sages big reply...

“Yes, they are both ours. The one is question is a very old one”

Hmm I was hoping for a little more, like why the changes but I guess it answers the question of this thread .

Due to ITAR restrictions the ALCS model will have a NON-COLLAPSIBLE stock - the telescoping stock strut rods are oversized and the butt cannot be collapsed

However it is quit easy to put in aftermarket rods or turn the rods down to make the stock collapsible

Pulled from a 2014 CGN thread

I recently ordered a new sage chassis with selector cutout cover as well as a spare cut out cover for one of my other older chassis.
It appears that the newer chassis and covers have different dimensions that the older versions. The new cover won’t fit into the cutout on one of my older chassis. Not a big deal, but something to note. On the new chassis I received this week, all the parts that used to be grey (stock button, sling mounts etc) came black. Very nice looking unit :)
