1950 SKS with SPIKE BAYONET

I PM 'd Westrifle but they said they only had 1949 with spike bayo and no 1950, not sure if they were trying to say there was no such thing or that they just didn't have any! Odd! I would love to have one though!

I don't have 1950 in spike bayonet.
 
I just took a quick look at my early 1950, heavy refurb, stock is xxed out and repairs, poor Parkerizing, but the serial # starts with Er, and 3 digits, so under # 1000 , the 1950 r and the Tula star is hand stamped,, not even in line and the star is pretty funny cause it is so misshapen! Must have been Friday afternoon and the vodka was flowing! This one has the blade bayobit is shiny so might be original, perhaps the barrelled receiver was old/49 style but finally ran out of spikes!! Wouldn't it be cool if we could talk to some of the former workers of these factories!
 
On June 30, Westrifle posted 10-1949 SKSs for sale. Price was $400.00. Last one of the ten was listed 1950. Bought it right away. After purchase I found out that they had a 150 year promotion that week-end and I was able to get $15.00 off purchase. I don't have a copy of invoice, but I am sure that westrifle would have.

Hi bobdbldr- What you have is a early 50. Sometime in 1950 they started a different one stamp process(look at 49s compared to late 50-58) for tula star. Is the date on cover stamped or engraved, also is the gas port 90 degrees or sloped? Any chance of posting some pictures?

Yep it's an early one with 90 degree gas port, perforated latch and 100% hand engraved cover, will try to post pics but folks are saying photobucket is a mess I think!

I believe that you have to pay a fee for photobucket. What I did was register at - https://imgbb.com/ Once registered you can download pictures. Transfer pictures to site then press download to keep them there. When downloaded look at webpage name. It should look like https://ibb.co/album/_ _ _ _ _ _. It is case sensitive and everything has to be entered correctly or it won't bring it up. Been there, done that. You can then start a new reply and enter this webpage and when clicked on will bring up pictures. I put my profile as private and pictures as public. Hope this helps. also there was no fee for joining. Try to get pictures of cover and all S/Ns if possible. Look at the pictures that I took as an example.
 
bobdbldr- You had mentioned about contacting Westrifle about 50 with spike. Well this morning I emailed them, and asked to get a copy of my invoice. They replied promptly. Invoice stated 1X1950 Russian Laminate #717, Free Shipping. Cost was $400.00 plus GST. A regular SKS with laminate sells for $290.00, but mine was included with the batch of 49's with spike.
 
Ok will try to set that up tomorrow, yes I asked Westrifle if they happened to get any more 1950 with spike bayo, that I would like to buy it, his answer was kind of vague. Said they only had 1949 with spike. I think he meant they didn't have any at that moment.
 
This 1950 with a spike is quite possible, it is still using the 1949 script on the date, not the newer 1950 onwards script, indicating a very early rifle, and quite likely with a bayonet, a rare beast. I have a 1950 old script with out, could be referb.
 
bobdbldr- I think that this carbine slipped past westrifle as it was listed in the column for 49s. And when they advertised it, they didn't consider it as different, but did put it down as a 50(have invoice to prove).
They probably bought a crate of 49s and the shipper unknowingly put this one in as it looked like a 49.

Forty4Forty- What does your S/N start with and what early traits does it have? Also if you look at the stock ferrule on mine, you will see that it is for a spike bayonet.
 
Not necessarily. It was not strictly sequential and old vs new features were spread across two to three months. In some extreme cases old feature could surface in a year or even later.
 
There are several 1949 SKSs with the S/N EM recorded. It is possible that they continued with this S/N at the start of 50. One thing that I have found out from this and other forums is that nobody knows for sure what happened in the manufacture process. In some of the other forums, they have found items that point to it being a 50 with spike, trouble is that they have none on record. They have some on record with certain 49 characteristics but not with a spike. On their data base they require photo proof and I think that in my case they need other carbines with all the 49 features before they could consider it fact. And in this case I would have to agree. There are a lot of SKS owners who are not on a forum and a few may have a carbine like mine sitting in their safe.

And when you see a 49 with a blade bayonet, you will also see a fat stock and a stock ferrule change or modification to match (stock ferrules are different). And more than likely to have a replaced gas port. Cause - refurb. I have a refurb. 49 and it has a blade and the 90 degree gas port has been replaced. Also the stock ferrule has been V notched. It is only my opinion that they had a few spikes left over in 50 and used them up, then reverted to blade. Look again at mine. Added 3 pictures of trigger.
