2007 IPSC Canadian Nationals

You got it right johan, You will have to be on the range all five days. If anyone is interested the USPSA Area 8 championship is on the same weekend.

The tentative plans for the 2007 nationals are for the competitors to shoot the stages over two half days. (each 1/2 day will be five to six hours). You will be scheduled to work one full day. (The work day will be 10-12 hours)

Until we get closer to the event and can determine the exact amount of competitors and officials, the schedule will be tentative.

Regards,

Co-Match Director 2007 Nationals.

I heard some comments about working in the morning and shooting in the after noon, and vise versa. Any truth to this or just rumours?

I ####ing hope not... I don't mind working after shooting but no way the other way around...

Re: ICS, it has changed as of a few days/weeks ago. National standings have also been updated to reflect 2006 Nationals participation.

so you are only busy for 3 of the 5 days.. why the "you must be the range the full 5 days" that I've seen around????????????

You should plan to be available for the whole match because scheduling will not be finalized until probably a month before the event. Until the schedule is posted you will not know what days you will have to be on the range.

I have a few questions about the 2007 Nationals:

1) If one flies, I assume you would book the flight to Vancouver? How do we get to the match hotel? Is there public transportation between the airport and POCO?

2) How do competitors get from the match hotel to the range? I guess what I'm wondering is a car rental a necessity (and thus an additional expense)?

3) I have family in Richmond, and also Abbotsford. If I were to stay there I assume the morning drives would be reasonable? I don't know if the traffic would be slow, as it appears to be about 35-50kms away.

Thanks, guys.

good questions. I am still not sure if I am going yet, but I would like to know about which hotel, airport to go to , transportation options (rental?). WHat are the distances between hotel and airport, hotel and range, etc..

A ride is a must

Last Stop for public transportation is about 4-6 kilometers away.

If you were to live in Richmond, it would take you approx an hour or more (depending on traffic) to get to the range.

Best place to stay would be at the Host Hotel as this is the closest of them all.

There is public transportation to the hotel.

from the airport....? How far is the range from the hotel?
thanks for info.

flying into Abbotsford would definititely be the way to go. Then carpooling from the airport to the host hotel in either a cab, or renting a car. Vancouver Airport sucks the huge one.

Last time i flew into Vancover international and had to take a cab to the Match hotel (air canada in it's infintie wisdom cancelled my early flight and got me to Vancover at midnight so i called my ride and told him to go to bed) it cost me $50. i think during the day it could easily run to $75 with traffic.

i could be wrong but i cannot think of a nationals where there was transportation supplied from the match hotel to the range. In most cases people car pool.

Public Transportation is not direct ....

You will have to take at least 2 transfers to get to the hotel which is about 45 kilometers away from the airport. Travel time to hotel from the airport with the bus system plus waiting time between buses... arount 1 1/2 to 2 hours. It can be done but I personally wouldnt do it. The buses from the airport to your next bus has provisions for baggages but the skytrain would not and neither would the other connecting flight.

Flying into Abbotsford and renting a car from there is another alternative. Slavex would be more qualified to talk about that side of the area in terms of travel time, distance and traffic conditions.

Distance from host hotel to range is approx 5miles or about 10 kilometers.

If youi have been to the range before, the 2 kilometers up from Coast Merdian was just gravel. Now about 1.5 of those are asphalted. A new development is going up nearby !

is there a taxi cab company in that area?

YES ! I'm sure on match days, you could hitch a ride with somebody. I could drop by the hotel on the way up to the range and give you a ride if needed.

My own experience: I had my wife drop me off at the top of the hill last October in Kelowna and was just walking down the hill to the range. Sure enough first car that came by stopped and gave me a ride. It was Walter H.! I am forever grateful... from one gunnutz to another

it's also worth checking to see if there are airport shuttles from the host hotel. Most do offer that, some free, some simply cheap.
