Only took 10 posts before someone brought their ethics into it.
Thought it would be quicker actually.

Apparently the OP is the first person ever to misjudge the range of an animal.

Yet somehow he killed it at over 500 yards.


Congrats on the moose and buy your buddies a beer for helping you drag the moose out.

I used to post hunting pics on another forum [Alberta Outdoorsmen] but don't anymore as some dicks sent my teenage son nasty e-mails for shooting does that he had legal tags for.The kid was so proud of his deer and gets crap from an adult no less.I posted the nasty letters and a lot of people seen them before the moderator decided to edit them.It comes down to petty jealousy and self righteousness...............congrats on the moose and the shooting................Harold

Have to agree with X though, that bull is likely closer to the 550-650lb mark, on the hoof.

Good story, good hunt, and here's to some good eatin'.....congrats! Nothing wrong with shooting one that far out. Heck, 500 yards is a walk in the park for some of us.

We went to the marsh by boats through two lakes and hiked 2 km up the hill. Travel time is 2+ hours. Not as lucky as some of you that can hunt out of a truck.

I was hunting in WMU #54. I have a range finder but didn’t have it with me, neither was I expecting to shoot that distance (the long point in the marsh). It is obvious that I misjudge the distance as I noted with my first shoot. That was corrected with my subsequent shots. That was my decision to shoot and I made.

I practice 200-500 rounds at the 300 yard range yearly. Not as much last year but I am very comfortable shoot that distance.

I apologize for making assumptions based on your first post. I appreciate the clarification. It sounds a bit more like a hunt from that description.

Glad you had success, but it's one thing to pound paper at 300-400 yrds (no matter how often you do it) and another to try on a moose during the first three minutes of the season, without a rangefinder, indeterminate weather, and all kinds of other variables different from the 'range' experience.

In my opinion, the moose and our sport deserved more respect... these types of stories typically do the most harm to the credibility of our sport and hunting heritage.

I strongly encourage you to try 'stretching out the experience and not the shooting distance.' The rewards are usually greater and well deserved.

It appears that since he hit the moose with 4 subsequent shots after missing with the first one Dannyboy is clearlhy able to shoot at those distances.

Log off and join a knitting forum..getting tired of guys that post s**t like you in a hunting forum, not singling you out alone this goes for everyone. There are guys like my uncle that have shot more moose than some of you have posts, and he has never owned a rangefinder, and shot most of them before they even made them.
