I shot my bull at 9:30am on Monday - within the first 3 minutes of arrival.
With the first shot missed, I followed with four more rounds and brought the bull down. I thought that was in 350-400 yards range. It turned out to be 503 yards on my GPS.
We think the bull must be over 1000 pound given that the six of us couldn’t move it an inch until we gutted it. We spent the rest of Monday moving it out of the marsh and hung it on a tree.
The second day we managed to move it 20 more yards in the swamp and decided to cut it up. Leaving the head behind we pulled the sled behind the ATV to take the body parts back up the hill to the truck. By the time we finished at the camp it was 7:30pm on the Tuesday.
BTW I was shooting a 308 with 165 gr TSX. Most shots ended in the heart and lug area including breaking it front leg. I don’t recall seeing any exist holes so I expect my partners to retrieve the bullets for me when they skin it late on.
Well I am ready for my deer hunt in two week.
