2012 BCRA Tactical Rifle Championship Course of Fire

Ed, I am sure others such as myself would prefer a 2 day match. Perhaps make the 3rd day an optional day. It could be the day to do the military run down, carbine + rifle things. I've been to some other matches in the PNW and most run only one day or two day matches, which leaves time for travel. I also realize we have the issue of when the BCRA can get the range. Just my thoughts and 2 cents worth. Looking forward to getting back into this after a more than a few years away from the game.

There has always been the option for shooters at the matches to take part in only part of the match. When we did the 2 day match and one day sight in, some would only shoot the sight in day. Some would shoot only the first day of the match. If you bailed after one day, it did leave your partner on their own for the rest of the match.

Each year there has been the Vancouver Island Tac Rifle Spring and Fall match. They are a one day match at the Nanaimo Military Range. For about the last 3 years they were all cancelled due to lack of registrations. I am not certain why the lack of interest.

There are challenges for those attending the BC Championship Match. The time away from the home front. Taking time off work. Packing all the right gear. Travelling to the match from Alberta, Saskatchewan, Washington, Oregon and all over BC. Eating restaurant food. Staying in unfamiliar accommodations. Worrying about your gear. And of course the cost. After all that you need to get inside the bubble to shoot. Several people have spent months developing a course of fire to try to take you out of your comfort zone. To probe the weaknesses of you and your gear.

No match will be accessible to all but we try to find the right combination to bring in the top shooters. This is what raises the level of this competition. It can’t be the BC Championship if it is a few guys from the same club shooting at metal gongs on a Sunday afternoon.

In my opinion it would be nice if we could have qualifying matches (or even practice maches) in Kamloops, Nanaimo and Lower Mainland. Then the top qualifiers from these would qualify for the BC Championship. But that is in my fantasy world from behind the key board and would require a whole lot of work and orgainzing.

I think because prizes are available it doesn't make sense to bail after a day two for most guys when you need all they points you can muster to get a good shot at the prize table. If you look at returns for the Bcra target and f class championships where they attempted the same thing, I believe there is good precedent for NOT trying to squeeze in 4 days of shooting on a long weekend in the future. People may have said they want 4 days but obviously they did not. Take the results from those two matches and plan accordingly for next year and I'm sure things will be back to normal.
