The Buffalo Target Shooters Association (BTSA) is pleased to host the 2012 IPSC Provincials – June 30th & July 01st. As you may know, the IPSC crowd in Lethbridge have been facing some challenges of late – none of them of their own making. When it became clear that their original plans to stage the Provincials became untenable, the BTSA stepped in with our offer to host the match.
You might (rightfully) question – just who are we since we have not staged a single IPSC event to date. BTSA is an affiliate of the
Alberta Pistol and Rifle Association who have operated the Sibbald Range complex 35 km west of Calgary for a good many years. The BTSA has provided an outdoors ‘Holster Night’ event for the past 6 years, and have been quite active within the APRA at initiating the many recent advances in the Sibbald complex. Given the numerous challenges facing Olds, Lethbridge and few other ranges in and around the Calgary area, we thought some bold action was required to ensure we all have a place to shoot in the future.
As such, we pushed in five new pistol bays to augment our two existing bays. Remembering with some fondness one of the Canmore Range’s finer attributes, we took the liberty of building our own ‘Jungle Run’. Within the BTSA’s Holster events we have focused most of our interest around mainly IPSC style stages, while sending a number of our shooters to IPSC Alberta. Let there be no confusion – hosting the AB Provincials is a challenge; but we would not have offered to do so had we had any doubt that the BTSA could provide a well-organized, challenging and safe event, for all levels of competitors. Oh yes – we want you to have fun too !
As of this posting we are accepting applications for the 2012 IPSC Provincials. We have room for the first 150 competitors. A Match Shirt will be available – make note of that on your application. As always, if you would like to help with any part of the staging of this event, please contact the BTSA and let your wishes be known. You can use the attached link to access the application forms. You will quickly note the $150 event fee. Frankly we don’t like it one bit – however, hosting the event over the July 1st long weekend without much advance notice meant we had little ‘bargaining’ power with our suppliers, especially on the banquet and meeting room costs. Further, this is Calgary where prices are higher than elsewhere in the Province. Sorry : it’s just the way it is. The Match Hotel will be the Best Western in Calgary’s Motel Village. The location offers easy access to Highway #1 leading to the Range, as well as convenient C-Train access for the non-participant. There are a number of accommodation options in and around Motel Village, as there are a wide range of eating and refreshment venues.
The match will consist of 12 stages @ 225 rounds. We are in the process of seeking Level III sanctioning with IPSC. Once we have completed that process, we will release the Match Copy.
Your Co-Match Directors will be Rick Erickson and Joe Breslawski.
We hope you can come out and join the fun. See you there !
