2012 Team Hoser 3-Gun Challenge

Outstanding match. 1st place in Open and 3rd overall, going on the fridge for a bit next to my crayon drawings!

Was Paul S sent back in time to kill Sarah Connor?

Will there be a Paul S division next year where Paul S can compete with his only nemesis, mirror universe Paul S?

Are there any photos of Paul S or he too high speed for standard earth cameras?

If you combine all the Iron's classes mississaugagunnut still won. There were 4 of us without optics...

I'm not a huge fan of the "30" or heavy metal classes, they have as many advantages as disadvantages.

For example, the 5th stage with the orange block... light .223 FMJ would pass right through it without knocking it down... I had no such problem with 123gr FMJ's.

Steel reacts better to the larger bullet weight too. You just have to deal with a little more recoil.

There should be three classes... open, optics and irons... and maybe PCC, but the "short" ranges in Ontario don't put the pistol calibers at that much of a disadvantage.

I noticed there were two guys in Tac30 optics, does anyone know what they were shooting? All I saw was a sea of AR-15's :)

One shooter on my squad had a VZ with a red dot mounted up front.

With your 3 basic divisions we wouldn't be able to hear our gunshots over "some" sks shooters complaining about how unfair it is 'cause they only have 5 round mags.. Been there heard that..:D

Some background/rational behind the creation of the Tac30, divisions for these TH matches...

'Has nothing to do with power/recoil/shootability as opposed to any other caliber.

The div. was created so that the SKS/VZ shooters could be classed to shoot against each other based on their limited magazine capacity...
By default almost every .30cal semi auto rifle commonly available in Canada is limited to using a 5 round mag...

Yeah yeah yeah... "What about the Garand..?"
Well... The day I see a Garand come out to one of our matches we'll revisit the division issue.:)

Personally I don't think the capacity issue is that big a deal, but some shooters use it as a crutch. If you develope some stage planning ability and master your reloads you could probably negate any perceived advantage a guy with a ten round mag has over you.
Unfortunately few can or will invest the effort to up their game... They prefer instead to blame their equipment.
So... That's why there is Tac30.

That would depend on what kind of bullets you shoot in your ar, I agree fmj had issues with the self sealing orange block I did not with my V-max bullets.. ;)

7.62 x 39 does not usually make major power factor of 320. Heavy Metal is usually more geared towards .308's.

In the club level league that I run I've been toying with just making a "x39" division and being done with it. I've kept our divisions limited to 5 round mags other than Open, and even then there's whining from the SKS/Mini-30 guys that they can't compete with the ARs even with the magazine capacity kept fair and square.

As with almost everything we try to copy from our US friends our version gets watered down and bastardized...
Yes, 3GN "Heavy Metal" is generally dominated by the .308. You'll NEVER see an sks at those matches.
Here in Canada where many gunners want into the game without spending any money... It's another story.
MDs get pressure to adapt their matches to "accomodate" guns that might not be ideal for the game or have some sort of disadvantage over one platform or another.
I guess it stems from our Canadian "include everyone in everything" mentality.

You'll never satisfy some people. I suggests telling them to either go buy an AR if being competitive is so important to them or... The one thing that's sure to shut them up.. "organize a match yourself, that way you can have whatever rules YOU want."

So true as our match is an outlaw match we can do whatever we wish. The popularity of SKS/VS is so large we wanted them to shoot together. We rarely have anyone shoot .308(true heavy metal) thats why we went with the tac ops and 30 ops. We just want guys out shooting and we all have to start some where and the 762x39 crowd is usually new shooters and we want them to compete. The growth of 3 gun is in getting more shooters and more matches. What we really need is more then Team Hoser and the EESA guys putting on matches to make this sport grow.

I used my SKS because I don't own an AR. I did not expect a class, or any special rules to make up for my "disadvantage".

I have no real incentive to get an AR either. There is no prize money (not a complaint) and nothing is on the line but bragging rights.

I had a ton of fun, and I'm hooked... you can expect me at every match in future, still shooting my SKS, reloading with stripper clips, and using my 20ga 870. Those are my tools and I'm learning how to use them. Put me in whatever class you want, I'll still show up.

I think that is awesome...I like the idea of SKS multigun shooters enjoying and developing their class instead of the SKS being viewed kind of as a "gateway gun". This way more SKS owners will get involved and then it won't be so easy for the Cmiller and the Mississaugagunnut types to place in the top 2 ;)

Agreed 100%. I've spoke to a few people at my club expressing my eagerness to help to put on a match. The more people involved and excited about this sport, the more people there should be to help out and put on matches. When I was at Guelph last weekend I couldn't help but think about how you guys who clearly enjoy this so much, gave up your time on a sweltering June weekend to let others have a fun match. I don't know anyone who would rather RO than shoot a match...it was appreciated!
Other clubs need to step up and I hope mine will be one of the ones that does.

I bought an SKS to use for 3 gun, and it was FUN. Slow to reload, tough to unload and clear, and really not competitive, but it was still fun!

I convinced myself that I had to have the AR to be competitive (actually that was just the excuse to the wife!) so I bought the AR! Now I can be more competitive!

So the next match my "ported" shotgun put me into open, so I figured I might as well have a scope on the AR! I put on an old scope (night before the match, note to self, DON'T SCREW WITH SIGHTS UNLESS I HAVE LOTS OF TIME!!!!) That's the second time I did that!

Anybody have any ideas how to convince my wife I need a new pistol now????

I didn't do all that well in the match, but I didn't shoot the RO, and I wasn't last, so I figure I had a pretty good time.

I was shooting an SR-25 with a SpectreDR 1.5-6x scope.
Not cheap in any way, but a ton of fun to shoot!
