Hey Darin your ears must have been ringing today, we spoke about you many times and truly wish you could have been here, Fred doing well but one of those Chows brothers are Hot today but still two more days.

We had a great first day at Connaught. The weather looked a little threatening in the morning while we were at 700 and 800, but conditions were somewhat steady and there were lots of great scores posted. After lunch the range started to show it's teeth a little more with big let-offs and mirage running opposite the flags, just in time for our relays at 900. Here are a selection of pictures from Day 1:

Day 1 Photos

Off to the range!

a weekend that I will remember for a loooooonnnng time. So many great peoples in there.

you American FTR shooters.....beware of the "dogs" coming down south in august ))))))

Wow! so cool to see pics from this event, and even better to see a guy from my club with trophy in hand...well done Mr. Ogg always appreciate your time and advice out at TCRC.

We had a great weekend at Connaught; the weather cooperated, the wind played along, and the marking and support staff did a phenomenal job. Thanks especially to our RO, Chris Jones, and to our Butts Officer and Statistician Bobby-Rae and Kathy. The scores will have to wait until tomorrow, but I am happy to announce that Gord Ogg won the F-Open and Jonathan Laitre won the F-TR; congratulations!

We did get a few responses to the equipment survey that Maynard asked us to do, and the results are here:

Eastern F-Class Equipment Survey

Basically the average gun is a 308, trued Rem 700, Broughton or Kreiger barrel, Robertson stock, Nightforce scope, Jewell trigger, and Star Shooter Bipod, which would probably cost about $4500 to build new (if you could find a stock). I am very happy to say that there were some lower dollar rigs there as well that aquitted themselves admirably.

Some pics from the event to follow...

It would be inappropriate of me to not also take the time to thank our sponsors for their generous support of this year's event. They are, in no particular order:
- Star Shooter
- Paul Bawden Marksman Accesories
- Hirsch Precision
- Mystic Precision
- North Shore Barrels
- Applied Ballistics, LLC.
- Sinclair
- SAIL
- Price Enterprises
- X-Reload

Events like this are simply not possible without the support of companies like those listed. As I've mentioned previously, we as shooters need to really pay attention to those companies who continually support us, and have the good sense to return that support whenever we can.

Scott,

Thanks for the equipment survey. This will give people a good idea on what they need to start if they are planning on building a rifle, to play with the big boys.

One thing I did notice from the pictures is there seems to be a lot of left handed F Class shooters.

Happy to do it Tom! We actually had a couple of prospective shooters come out to watch and it was nice to be able to also show a factory Savage Palma with a Sightron on it as an entry level, but still competitive option for someone who doesn't want to jump in to the sport wallet first.

One thing I did notice from the pictures is there seems to be a lot of left handed F Class shooters.

Out of 36 shooters I think we had 5-6 lefties; we just happen to be more photogenic :)

as equipment affect results for sure, i strongly suggest to practice a lot instead of trying to "buy" results. It's simply not possible to buy an awsome setup and think you will win. There is of course a minimum and here is what i recommend as the basic.

FTR setup:

Sightron SIII 10x50x60 (fine cross hair, no milldot, 1/8moa)
Warnes 20 moa picatiny rail and rings
any stock that is light complete with adjustable cheek and butt (around 5.5 to 6 pounds)
trigger set at 10 ounces (any rifle basix, timney or whatever can do it, dont need a 350.00$ trigger)
Single shot action for rigidity
custom 32in barrel (Bartlein, Broughton, Krieger, tru-flyte)
starshooter bipod (or any STIFF bipod)
Edgewood rear bag filled with Chromite (important if not critical to have a stable setup)
Berger bullets (the bullet is definitely not the place to save on $$$ as it is the one making points for you)
bedding, bedding, bedding, bedding, bedding,........critical

this is my humble opinion

This is very interesting stuff. Thanks for posting this information. I'm particularly interested in what the FTR winners or top 5 shooters were using for bullets and how fast they were pushing it.

It would also be interesting next time to survey what type of powder and brass is being used. I thing this kind of information is very useful for new shooters considering the sport. The more information we could get out on powder and equipment the quicker a new shooter could become more competitive.

Again through the hard work of individuals and support by sponsors ,the 3RD Annual Eastern Regional F Class Championships are now good memories
and part of Canadian F Class history.
Special Thanks to Scott,Barry,Kris,BobbyRae,Kathy and all who made this happen and to All the Match Sponsors and supporters.

For all of you who were there ,it was great to see you again or meet you for the first time.
For all those that wish they had come or would like to , remember the 4TH annual ERFCC is just a year away.(believe me it goes by fast)
I can attest to the fact that each year the matches get better, the competition stronger, the enjoyment even more memorable.
In 3 short years with the efforts of those dedicated individuals, both the Western and Eastern Regional F Class Championships have created
2 traditional ongoing competitive events that strengthens and grows the future of F Class.
It was great to see new faces there and look forward to seeing the numbers of attendees grow in the years ahead.
Remember the Annual Canadian F Class Nationals are mere weeks away!!!!!
Also I must mention that it maybe time for Canadian F Class to start a "record" bar of performance.
I saw a score posted by young Mr Chou of a 75.14V ...an incredible feat on our F Class targets ....that's 14 shots inside a 1/2 moa V Bull at distance!!

As always I forgot to bring a camera so appreciate the posting of the pictures....
FWIW.. every time I've shot on Connaught ,I've always managed to leave having "learned" something new.Every once in awhile ,one can experience
an epiphanic moment that will be remembered. This was one of those matches....

My congratulations to all the prize winners, and to all who came and again my thanks to those who made this happen again.

As a final thought.
A good number of us F'ers from across the country will be traveling to Raton this year to represent Canada
not only at the US Nationals, but the World's F Class Championships. The next World's will be held HERE in Canada in 2017!!
For those of you just starting out or are giving this sport some thought..... consider 2017 as a TARGET year.
Regards & Best wishes
Gord
