2013 Member Saskatchewan Gopher Shoot.

I got a new rifle and scope for this year. Browning T-bolt .17HMR and a Swarovski Z3 4-10x42. I also made up some 110gr HP rounds for my .30-06, can't wait.

So did I in a way.. going to bring the .300WSM I bought in December for my Africa trip. Be a great way to do a little more practice with it.

Also my wife picked up the Rifle today that I picked out for Ernie.. http://www.cabelas.ca/product/39821/savage-mark-ii-fxp-bolt-action-rifle-w-scope

Now will pick up a case & some ammo to go with it.

Well guys I'm not gonna be there this year. The dismal gopher numbers and the price of fuel put me out of it. Maybe next time. Have a good time you guys that are going.

I was looking forward to going, but seeing as how we are in for a 12 hour drive each way, gophers being in short supply , makes a person reconsider the travel.

We came for the gophers (5 years ago) but kept coming back for the company. Sure it was fun blasting gophers by the dozen but less opportunity means you have to be more skillful and take some fantastic long shots. We're looking forward to the get get together no matter what. I don't care for the 10 hour drive and fuel costs but it's worth it.

Andrewe. That's the exact sam thinking as me! Mind you its only about an hour and a half for me. I shot 5 gophers last year, but it was still worth every penny!

See you guys in a few weeks! :)

Boomer. I bet each gopher I shot last year cost me well over $20 in expenses.

There may not be many gophers lately but the camping sure is much nicer than the first couple years when there were tons of gophers. Having the shoot a month earlier sure made for some crazy weather. We saw wild winds that tore up the camp, sub zero temperatures, snow and rain, even a tornado. I can't believe that people stuck it out in a tent. Then there were awnings flying off campers, campers that flew off hitches, campers that burned to the ground, people driving over barbed wire, and Kelly eating green wieners. Yet we keep coming back. So now the hardship is less gophers. No big deal.

Less than a month to go. I'm looking forward to seeing everyone again. We're showing up Wednesday evening. Who's going to be there ahead of us?

This is the latest list. If you are not on there and you think you should be then send me a PM or post here so I can get you on the list :)

Sorry you feel the way you do Stubblejumper. I go for the company, not the gophers. I can shoot gophers in my backyard....But I cant share stories and beers with you guys in the same yard!!! More than worth the trip, 3.5 hours each way in a Jeep that gets 8mpg with a tail wind, and I can only stay 30 hours...but I am coming!!!

Me and Pharaoh have had a few chats in the past, and more and more we agree that this shoot will no longer be "open" to anyone, but will in future shoots be "Invitational"

I will be there.........rough accomodations this year.........army cot in the back of a cargo trailer (oldest daughter is moving back to BC, Dad's Moving and storage got the job.....lol) ah well the company is always good and the gophers are there just take a little looking thats all.......just ask Kevin

It's a 3200km (2000 mile) round trip for me. Last years trip cost me $700 in gas and $500 in hotels. I'm turning this trip into a two week holiday. Going to checkout the two Dino parks in Alberta and a couple other tourist spots. The Gophers I get this year and meeting everyone again will be a bonus. I hope to be able to come out for as long as I'm invited.

If you let the gas prices dictate your travel plans, you'll never be able to get out and have fun and explore this great country of ours.

For me it has never been about the gophers. Its a chance to visit with friends & family. 4.5hrs for me each way, I never even look to see what it costs me. I too can shoot gophers in my back yard, or on my own property, but I still come.

This year is extra special as we get to present our hosts with the rifles we raised $$ for them.

Hope he likes it. Looks like a good choice. :)

Lots of gophers in the area if you look . This saturday Cool Critter and I shot about 600 gophers in a couple of hours on a 20 acre patch of hay ground 5 miles southwest of Piapot. We left plenty for everyone else.
