The weekend was good.. and the family freezer meat is once again replenished. Can you believe i forgot my big tent and slept in the truck for two nights ? Rough
Called the guy out.. came just a running and stopped broadside. Ranged him. At 189 yards, i sent a 130 gr Hornady GMX on its way and at the shot he lunged forward. I let out a cow call and he stopped again. I aimed lower this time, and tighter to the shoulder. He ran for the treeline and made it 50 yards. Heard a big moan and a couple huge crashes. Upon field dressing... the first shot had a complete pass through through the lungs. Second shot was also a complete pass through but blew the heart out.
The Hornady GMX impressed me huge. It hit a rib and put a nice hole on the first shot's entrance. And a clean cut hole on the exit. Lungs were mush the second shot missed bone.. had a beautiful entrance hole...and another clean cut exit hole. The heart was barely salvageable for consumption.
I had the choice of taking my normal moose guns. My .338wm and .375 ruger.. but this new to me minty Ruger MKII RS had to draw first blood.
When threads show up asking if 270win is enough for moose.. you bet it is. Ive taken elk as well with a .270 win. Who doesnt love this cartridge?
