2013 Whitetail's lets see them

Man I never get tired of looking at harvest pics! Great photos and stories all. I've had quite a year - filled my 2 tags opening morning -- doe was poking a long with a buck in tow - got both within in 1 minute of each other and the buck seemed oblivious to the rifle shot on doe. Got another one while out party hunting later in the week! Going to be hard to beat this year I think, My trusty .308 - first handloaded bullets to fell game for me debut ... 165gr nosler partitions worked nicely :)

You are required to be in direct contact with the other members. We use cell phones and text. For instance, when I shot the doe last night, it was the last doe tag for 53A (mine) and I immediately texted my friend who was 3 or 400 yards away in my treestand to hold off on any does. I then verified that I had hit her, and texted him saying that he could only shoot a buck. We also notch and tag our deer immediately before we move or gut them. I don't ever want to have a CO question me, so we do it all by the book.
In 35yrs of hunting, I have never SEEN a CO, but I still do it this exact way, just in case, no questions, I do NOT want to lose my privileges!! Or my truck, quad, guns...

These prints are as big as my hand!

Manitoba had the worst winter kill off I have seen in 10 years. Not to mention wolves.... lots of wolves. I saw a wolf bigger than the doe I shot. You won't see many big buck pics from MB and SASK.

The real question is whether you had a wolf tag....

Some nice hunts guys and gals.

No whities for me this year. Hopin to hit the coyotes hard this year to help out the deer for next year though

The real question is whether you had a wolf tag....

All Manitoba big game licenses include provisions to take one wolf or coyote. I pay the six bucks to get the trappers license, wolves can be hunted while in prime, coyotes are year round right now. Of course if you didn't have one before three years ago, you have to take the training course.

Wow there is some good catches this year from what I can see!

Took my first deer this year, a good sized 8 point buck. The pictures are not of good quality since I forgot my camera so had to use my phone.
I shot it with a Type 56 SKS at about 40 yards. Couldnt be happier for my first deer. Overall the hunting group got 4, cant wait for the steak!

Already counting down the days until next year!

I can't imagine finishing off a deer with a bayonet. Yuck!
I used a screwdriver once.

Spring time, Doe got hit by a car at the main gate to the base. MP's and gawkers had traffic all backed up. Had to get to work. go up, they are training to figure out how to put the animal down without the paperwork of drawing and firing their sidearm... They tell me they have called he CO, but he is in St Paul (an hour+ away). Walked back to the car, had them help me hold her down, done. Much better than being a public spectacle with a broken back. Not the nicest task, but...when necessary...

My first ever deer. Nice symmetrical 8pt, found him on the trail of a doe while glassing the backside of a large clear cut. Approximately 120 yd shot. Couldn't be happier! Also congrats to everyone else too! :)

Pics to follow…
