The Spruce Grove Gun Club Service Rifle League will be hosting service rifle shoots this coming season. We will be one of two service rifle events in the area with the Canadian Historic Arms Society putting on events at the Genesee range. We have coordinated our dates to eliminate conflicts and to provide two shoots per month.

As in years past, any rifle and any sight is permitted. Shoots will emulate DCRA matches including standing, kneeling, sitting and prone, snap and deliberate out to 300 yards. Several matches will be dedicated to precision rifle/sniper competitions. Match fees will be $5.00 for members and guests with guests also paying a $10.00 day pass. We will update this posting with match descriptions and courses of fire in the near future.

SGCC Match Dates

March 23 (weather permitting)
April 27
May 25
June 29
July 27
August 24
September 28
October 26 (weather permitting)

The Spruce Grove Gun Club Service Rifle League will be establishing a classification system for those shooters who want to participate. Classifications will be based on the Dominion of Canada Rifle Association classifications and will include Marksman, Sharpshooter, Expert and Master. Dave Oakie (2 time Queen’s Medal winner and DCRA Hall of Fame member) has cobbled together a classification course of fire that involves 2 matches. The whole point of the initial match is to provide shooters with some expert coaching and tutoring as well as to allow for an assessment of the shooter's abilities and equipment capabilities. According to Dave the purpose of the these shoots is not only to provide a challenging series of matches, but to offer a dedicated learning experience with experts on site. Much more challenging matches will be offered throughout the year.

Classification and Shake Out Matchs

100 yards, (sighters allowed and encouraged.)
10 rounds deliberate (prone) using a 3" bull
10 rounds kneeling using a 6" bull
10 rounds standing using a 12" bull

200 yards, (sighters allowed and encouraged.)
10 rounds deliberate (prone) using a 6" bull
10 rounds sitting using a 6" bull

Classifications:

Marksman: Score between 150 and 175 (up to 70% HPS)
Sharpshooter: Score between 176 and 200 (up to 80% HPS)
Expert: Score between 201 and 225 (up to 90% HPS)
Master: Score between 226 and 250

For the purposes of classification, shooters will have the opportunity for sighting shots at each range.

We will be keeping stats on each match shot over the course of the year. Shooters will be identified by both their first name and initial or by nickname. Shooters will be grouped according to their equipment used at the time of a particular match. Equipment groups will include:

Bolt actions with optical sights,
Bolt actions iron/open sights,
Semi-auto with iron/open sights,
Semi-auto with optical sights.

All shooters are welcome to participate in monthly Service Rifle matches. Those shooters who want to go to the next level and be part of the Service Rifle League classification program may pay $15.00 to take part in the classification match. Once the match is completed, the participant will be presented a Rothco Operator Cap (a $15.00 value) and a Velcro backed patch representing their current classification. The patch is a figure 12 target reproduced in Yellow for Marksman, Green for Sharpshooter, Red for Expert and Black/tan for Master. Participants will be awarded additional patches as they progress up the ranks.

Would you be kind enough to post the CHAS SR schedule here?--the link on the Chas site doesn't work.:(

The concept of a classification (and instruction to do so) is an idea (I hope) whose time has come. I recall an effort (by us) in the mid 1990's to do the same which just didn't catch on.

Times are different now (hopefully). More "black rifle" owners and a much higher population base (thanks to the oil boom) will hopefully translate into success for ya'all :)

Thanks for the support. I'll see what I can do for you Zuperman. I know Scott has traditionally run his shoots on the second Sunday of the month beginning on March 5 this year. That would leave the rest of his schedule looking like:

April 13
May 11
June 8
July 13
Aug 10
Sept 14
Oct 12
Nov 9 ??

Thank you....I forgot to mention/ask for the course of fire as well. (embarrassed)

No problems Zuperman. I can confirm those dates listed above for CHAS. I've sent Scott an email asking for details and expect to hear from him soonest.

Are there multiple dates for the PR/sniper matches? If so, I suggest creating a post like this in the LR/Precision Shooting Competitions forum as well. We can sticky it there too.

Further to the Service Rifle dates that have already been posted for the C.H.A.S. gun club, here is an updated match list, the dates remain the same but we have switched out one of the 200m NRA matches for a 300m NRA match. How is it looking for sunday?

I have never done anything like this, but i'm in!! Sooooooo if i find it, can i bring my CZ858? lol if not my M14 clone will have to do.

Is there a website or a phone number i can call to know if it's a go, or no go?

Besides my 15 dollar fee for the program, its 5 bucks to enter?? any other fees?

im super pumped if this is what i think it is!!! A bunch of sweet gunnuts that are all trying to shoot holes through holes in front of there friends?

This Sunday is a go! I'm not sure what the deal is with 858s and prohibitions etc. Normally it is a completely acceptable firearm for this type of shooting. The M305 is also quite popular. Scott's Genesee shoot had over 35 shooters and we expect a good turnout.

Fees are as follows:

Match fee $5.00
Day Pass for non-SGGC shooters $10.00
OPTIONAL program fee (classification, hat etc.) $15.00 (you only buy in if you want to)

See you out there.

Sorry SgtAxe for the late reply. No you do not need to be a member of SGGC to come out and shoot. There is a day pass charge of $10.00 on top of the match fee of $5.00

Prone will be shot of new benches. The new one's do not attach to the "wall" like the old ones and are not influenced or disrupted by someone else's movements
