Hey guys...nearly Christmas, and with the forum hung-up in allot of Norinco talk (just razzing, I have a backpacker :) ) ....I'm interested in knowing what your rimfire plans for 2015 are. A new gun? A new scope for an existing rimfire? More rimfire hunting? For me, the highlight of 2014 had to be 2-1/2 days behind a 17HMR, shooting gophers SW of Calgary with a friend of mine who lives there. (and he's not even into gopher shooting=very generous) Anyhow, an HMR serves little, practical purpose for me here in S. Ontario, but boy....does that caliber SHINE when it comes to shooting those little buggers. No temptation to add one to the collection until I know I've secured another invite...but I'm stopping just short of begging. :) So, if I can swing that...I may consider a HB .17HMR for the bulk of that work but if not, I'm toying with the idea of a Ruger American in .22WMR.

Thanks for taking a moment to reply...even you Norinco lovers. :)

I seem to have managed to scrounge up enough ammo for a while, so my plans? Just to shoot and keep 2 rimfires, one for me one for the gf. And shoot them and actually get USED to them. I'll admit I've had over 50 rimfires come and go, mostly just the excitement of buying and selling and shooting them a few times and selling to buy something newer and more exciting.

So my plan. Shoot the snot outta my henry at various distances and get used to the dang thing and hang onto it. Might sound silly but I've never actually don't that lol

I'm sorely tempted to get into the .17 HMR game. I recently picked up a Zastava M85 Carbine in 7.62x39, and I'm so impressed with it, I might get one of their precision .17HMR rifles, if I decide to commit to yet another caliber.

Also finally got around to doing a trigger job on my CZ 452, so might take a few cracks at the 50 meter 1/2" challenge. I know the rifle can do it. Just not sure if I can.

Also going to keep a tally this summer. I'm pretty sure I've done it before, but I want to know that I've broken the 1K Gopher in a season mark at least once.

1) Improve off-hand shooting with 22lr which will carry over to centre-fire rifles.
2) Acquire more 22 LR ammo.
3) Get a Ruger 10/22 + tech sights

1K...lol About 13-year's-worth of groundhog hunting for me...maybe. :)

I want to find an inexpensive bolt action for my kids, the 10-22 just lets them get use to firing and the noise but they blow through my ammo cache incredibly fast. I want to continue teaching them how fun firearms can be.

Seems the gophers are slowly disappearing year after year around here.
Need to scope me out a good patch this spring / summer!

I'm retiring in January so I thought it was time to get myself a gift. Everything pictured here was bought new from a fellow CGN member. The receiver is a Stiller 2500X, Jewel trigger set to 2 oz., Benchmark barrel to finish at 24" with a 1 in 16.5" twist, Shehane benchrest stock. Calfee reamer for Lapua ammo, .041" headspace and I can have either a 6 or 12 oclock firing pin (already set for 6 oclock). I'll be adding a Harrel tuner and top it with a Leupold Competition 45X scope. Everything is being shipped next week to Black Art Rifles in Naramata for assembly. I was thinking of a wild paint job for the stock but the more I look at it I think a hand rubbed oil finish will look good. Can't wait to get it back and start ammo testing. I'll add new pics when the assembly is done.

I found out my neighbour's teenage son just got into cadets and loves shooting their air rifles. I offered to take him out to the range and let him have some fun with a variety of 22's, hopefully introduce a newcomer to our hobby.

For myself, I'd like to try my hand at some DIY trigger work on a 10/22, and possibly get some new parts for my Savage TRR-SR.

Yah, I know in a lot of places that sounds like a ridiculous number. A lot depends on the kind of winter we have. If it's a cold, long winter (like last year), I'll be lucky to crack 250-300 over the season. If it's a mild, short winter, the population can explode. 100-150 in a day becomes common, 200 in a day doable. A couple years ago, where I shoot gophers, you pretty much didn't need to aim. They were so thick, just point in the general direction of the ground and you had a 50% chance of nailing one of them.

Very nice! I see if Jerry says it's nice, I had to check it out. I want to see pics and a range report.

A new year, a new 17 methinks. Hvy bbl with lots of glass up top.

257 wby has to come out and play in the gopher field this year... (I know not rimfire but... :)

I"m hoping that more companies will load for the 17 winchester super magnum, I'd be interested in see what that will do to a ground hog. The only options right now seem to be the savage B-mag and the winchester Low wall single shot. I"m hoping cz will have an offering or maybe sako.
