Hi all, I've been following this thread with great interest since finding it late last year. I'm a Victoria shooter, but as a single, I was wondering if anyone from the lower island would want to team up. I will probably go, regardless, but I thought I'd ask if anyone wanted to get a little practice in before the big weekend. As a disclaimer, I am a decent shot out to 250 but that is the longest I've ever gone. I shoot a 223 and I realize that 600 is a stretch for an inexperienced shooter. With that aside, I am game to meet up at vfgpa or in the bush for a little practice. PM me if anyone has any interest.
Thanks, Jesse

All future entrants if you need a Limited Competitive Membership June 17-19 could you get it from the BCRA web site bcrifle.org they have online (FRAUD ALERT) for memberships.
It would help us out a lot if you could do it that way please. For the ones that have already signed up , do not worry we will have you sighned up! Thank you!

You should get ahold of Gunlover he puts on practices in Nanimo. We had one last weekend.

Anyone know who the match director is this year? Very little info on bcprecisionrifle.com. Not much info on sponsors etc. A few years back the prize table was outstanding but not much info this year. That's not the most important thing of course but for those considering coming from out of province its a bit more incentive. The majority of shooters the past couple of matches have been local, not much out of province/country participation.

Thanks for all the hard work guys. Much appreciated.

1 Request - Since there are a lot of stages where you are both shooting at the same time can we make it fair/even for everyone and say that you are NOT allowed to use a 3rd person (from another team or a friend or anything) as your spotters. You're only allowed to be spotted from your shooting team mate. Having a 3rd person call corrections for your team is a huge advantage especially when we are moving distances, like when we move to 500m, both team members are shooting. Having a 3rd person calling corrections to correcting your dope at the new distance is a big advantage and not everyone has that ability so I'd like to see it even and say no one can use a spotter who is not their team mate.

Should be covered by 7.02.03 no "coaching" except from your team mate in the event if a shoot off.

Agreed.

The prize table and the awards handed out in 2010/11 were excellent. Additionally the number of competitors was twice what they have been the last two times. Through no fault of the organizers the next two years were a no-go.

However, since going back to the two day format the match has recovered enough to demonstrate that it could be a viable meet once again. The only thing that now holds it back from the former glory days is , in my opinion, the lack of the awards and secondly the lack of a good prize table.

This is not a cheap match. For an out of towner you are going to be looking at a thousand dollar bill by the time it's all said and done, so the concept of handing out a few cheap trophies and plaques to provide something more than bragging rights should be a no-brainer. A prize table is just the cherry on top.

As anyone who pays attention to these forums should be able to figure out, the PRS style of shooting (even as limited as we are in Canada) is the hot ticket these days. So, getting people involved is as easy as offering them a better reward than just personal satisfaction.

You need decent numbers to make it worth while for businesses to donate prizes and/or become sponsors. The more that attend and support the match, the easier it is to get sponsors/prizes.

The two years that were cancelled were due to a format change that made it tough to attend.Attendance is picking up since going back to the two day match (with optional sight in day).

I remember the glory days of sold out matches and heaping prize tables, and yes, it was great. But I come out to shoot and compete.Prizes are a bonus.

That said, JSA Tactical will once again donate prizes for the match. We will be donating 2 full sets of cordura shooting bags and 2 data book covers for prizes.

I think you got it backwards. If it keeps going the way it is currently you are not going to get the numbers.

Exactly. Skullboy is arguing the chicken and the egg.

I have been watching the numbers of attendees and they are stuck at about 30+- the last couple of years. My reasoning is that if we want more shooters we have to offer them something more than personal satisfaction for their bucks. That seemed to work well in the glorious past, there is no reason it won't work again.

On a separate note, advertising for the event is pretty poor this year. Of course, it may also be that even the organizers are not trying too hard to push the event, which would be understandable if you don't have as much to offer as you once did.

Chicken or egg?

I should also mention that there is not a single good reason that there are not at least a goodly number of trophies or plaques awarded. There is more than enough money for at least that.

As an example, I go yearly to a match which has about 35 shooters, over two days, with paid target pullers both days. At the award ceremony there are at least twelve medals and 4 trophies awarded.

The total cost per shooter - $70.

So, an obvious step to take to reanimate the PRS match.

Oof. I want to attend but I'm looking at 200 bucks in match fees to attend (early entry, site-in, BCRA membership) and then another 250+ bucks for extra magazines to feed the rifle in the match (AI chassis, so nice to shoot, so expensive to buy parts for LOL )

Dunno if I can swing that now this year...

And why is everything (FRAUD ALERT)? Why not use EMTs?

You don't really need extra magazines. They are nice to have but one 10 round mag will suffice. Even One 5 round mag is fine. Just single load after the mag is empty. Many shooters still single load rounds......

They may even be someone at the match who will loan you an extra mag........

You can pay via (FRAUD ALERT) or Credit card. I paid with my Mastercard.......
