2016 CDTSA Multigun Matches **critical UPDATE Post 251 ** SEPT Match

Being this is the first year doing it at Milo we had to guess as to when we needed to shut the range down. But, if no one shows up to help it doesnt matter because the regular crew cant do it all themselves regardless of time. Next year we can propose shutting it down the full day prior. But I dont think that is needed. If we have 2 additional people helping per stage. Each group would only need to setup one single stage, that could be done in an hour. It takes such a long time because we are getting the same 4 people TOTAL doing it all. (And one of them already quit because of lack of help)

We did talk about charging more and hiring locals. We would still need someone out there to supervise the setup and finding reliable locals is an unknown right now. After the match I will run into town and take with one of the store owners to see if they have an AGM or something like that we could post it at.

An hour of setup is fine if everyone showed up like you said. But if less than full numbers show up I'm not willing to stay late to finish the job. Based on the last time where the guys ended at 11PM that means home for about 12:30(midnight) then back up for 6AM to make the match, no thanks.. Closing the range on Saturday for an early setup/start would make more sense. Even if a full turnout of volunteers didn't show up the remaining ones could have it done with plenty of time to spare for the drive home or even some range time.

Again there is no argument. We cant just snap our fingers though and shut the range down outside of schedule. Certainly not 2 days before the shutdown. (Advanced notice needs to be mailed out to the membership. **And please dont say email them as that is a whole other can of worms**)

Set a timeline for your self and leave when you need to. Even a couple hours of help from 2 - 6 would be a WORLD of difference for the crew and be much appreciated.

Well seeing as how with the snap of your fingers you could cancel the match or decide we will have a half match this time around, I don't see how it would be much of an issue if you close the range a few hours earlier than before. The people attending the match will find out via CGN or your website, and possibly an email(The same way members find out about scheduled events). And we'll only find out if its a half match based on how much is set up THE DAY BEFORE. Short notice seems to be an option for match participants but not for members who aren't attending the match anyway?

Wow.

It's not me snapping my fingers and the match is cancelled. It is the hard working team volunteering to put the match on, aren't getting help from the other competitors and are going to quit.

Thanks for trying to blame me though for the lack of help that the team is getting. That's motivation to keep us going.

I'm saying the lack of organization is preventing you from getting the help you need.

You can organize all you want and ask all you want, but if people aren't willing to show you can't force them.

No support, no event.

Organizing a match of this size is no small feat. It needs people committing time outside of shooting to make it work. That is staffing, not organizing. You can plan and organize all day and it means nothing without staff. Volunteer staff.

And as I said in a previous post. First time doing this at milo. We had to guess on range closure. Can't change that time till next season. Hind sight 20/20.

And this comment isn't intended to be scrappy or sarcastic.
But if you have thoughts on a different way to organize and run the match I welcome you with open arms. But only if you will carry it through from start to finish.

this is disheartening to read,

I was hoping to get into this sport hard next year (just way to busy with work and work related exams right now or I would be down there helping. And im not even signed up to shoot nor a member of milo
Ive just visited on occasion

I'm not trying to be rude either. Sorry if it comes out that way.

I know this is the first year at Milo, but this isn't the first match of the year. I think if you're open to suggestions then it'll work out in everyone's favour for next year. Close the range for the day (or at least the bays you need, I know we don't use all of them) give more notice as to when you need volunteers, if possible charge more and hire people. Ask the match directors at other ranges for advice and tips. They've all been through the same thing as well. I like the pamphlets you guys give out. Keep those as reference so you can run them again another year.

I hear ya.
It's fantastic!
Even if it stops at cdtsa (which I hope it doesn't cause we can all agree that it could get very big there) shoot me a msg when your ready and we can still help you get into it.

And I did say before I agree with you. It just doesn't help us today.
Today we just need some people to come out and help on Saturday if they have time.

Cdtsa has been running them for a while now and each year is always better then before. If we get the support it will continue to grow into a powerhouse. But it won't happen overnight. There will be wins and there will be fails.

The big thing is we all have fun. (Right now the group making it happen..... isn't having fun anymore)

I will be out early Sunday morning I can help with any loose ends. Also I the last two matches we have used my Truck for teardown, It will be available again.

I'd still vote cancel it. This can be done at the click of somebody's fingers.

As mentioned, the club has to think about it's other 1250 members. You can't simply close the range without proper notification. 3G takes up quite a few ranges so it's a sizeable measure to take to see if help comes. The past has shown it doesn't help. When we set-up in Sheppard from 8:30-11ish at night for the following day's competition, people never showed. There was about 7 people. The same people are still doing it today.

These people have competed for years in Southern Alberta. We have pretty good reports with all past and present match directors from other 3G events.

It should be noted that the WRAS guys also come down here and help out with our events. Shows bad when they do more work than most(all) of our members and they are driving 4+ hours one way.

Good luck with the shoot guys. I'm sad I'm missing it. Can't say I'd be happy to help put it on with the poor showing of help.

Wowza! Lots of appreciation around here (sarcasm). It is a freaking lot of work to put on a match. If people don't help matches don't happen.

It's not like Joka is asking for 50 people to come out - a few extra hands make for quick work.

Well you're not much help. no advice, just cancel. At least they're still willing to try to keep it going with what they do have.
Who knows maybe with all this banter they've gotten more people, just shows how seriously close they are to not having a match this year, without any help.

I've done my best to help set up/tear down matches in the past, but my schedule this year has not permitted me to do the same. I'd gladly pay a higher match fee to assist in a monetary fashion to make up for my lack of hands-on time. I like the idea that helpers get their match fees paid for. Perhaps they deserve even more, and increased match fees might facilitate that.
