2016 CDTSA Multigun Matches **critical UPDATE Post 251 ** SEPT Match

I think it was more Range 8 and people missing the 50 Meter pistol targets.

This was honestly the highlight of the match for me. I had a feeling that some long range pistol shots would be required, and loaded some fullhouse rounds.
I didn't test them in my pistol beforehand, And they FTE on me. I dropped my 10 round mag after my third shot to clear the FTE and actually dropped the mag on the ground.
Cleared the 50M targets with 2 shots on my 5 round mag.

Nice! Did you get it on video?

I couldnt see where my impacts were so I had NO idea how to correct and I kept holding center.

Head/shoulder were hits on my 45 with light loads.

Drop at that distance isn't as much as many think it would be.

Clearly I need to practice 50 yard pistol and slug shots. Being ready for those would have helped me in the last two matches (where I was 1 for 2 on both - just by luck). Hearing that "ping" sure is satisfying! :)

While on the subject of "hearing the ping"...

Has anybody got any ideas on how we can RO the rifle steel hits in a consistent manner? Some RO's called out "hit/miss" (with hearing protection on these sound too much alike), some called out "contact" (that seemed to work well). Hearing the pistol hits on steel was pretty easy, but the rifle hits were tougher. It was even trickier RO-ing the 200 yard hits at the first match. Any ideas?

Up here we only call hits and it's done by someone other than the SO.

We gave up trying to shoot fixed plates farther than about 50m years ago. Way to hard to call the hits, especially with other squads shooting in adjacent bays. All the steel at that distance is hanging or swinging now.

Steel can only be shot from 100m and beyond with a rifle.

Contact is a good word to call out over hit.

We should only call out hits but some of us shoot in a league that only calls misses. Like me. So I be default tend to yell out misses too.

Yea,

Just needs to be clarified to match RO's.

PRS rules say you can only call IMPACT on hits. No report given for misses, and you don't use "HIT" when there is a IMPACT.

As noted, speed challenge calls "miss" and nothing for hits..

Slugs are great fun. Once again, drop shouldn't be considered at shorter ranges. Misses were likely due to POI with your shotty. Try testing your shotgun's POI as some don't shoot where they aim. Best to test this and use the same ammo the day of the match.

Scores

Is there any chance that I could get the scores sent to me from someone? Curiosity is getting to me.

I'd also like to get on the email list for future matches if that's possible.

PM myself or Joka with your e-mail. I'm sure we can have them sent over.

Joka will need to add you to the 3G mailing list though.

Any word on the September match?

I'm still recovering from the last one!

But no word yet beyond that it'll be held September 18th at the same time as the last 2.

We'll be doing the setup on the 17th (Saturday) for anyone that can come out. One change is this time we'll be covering guest passes for any non CDTSA members that can come out to help on Saturday for the setup. We really need setup help on the Saturdays if we're going to keep expanding these matches.

Everyone should really pay attention to that.

If no one comes and helps on Saturdays. We cannot keep up with the same caliber of matches.

I vote for full set-up and tear down on the day of the shoot. All participating members must attend. Turn around any member who shows up late or who didn't help set-up. Simple!

Extend start times, or have everybody there by 6.

It took all of 45 minutes to pack down? Shouldn't take more than 1.5-2 set-up & test.

Another option is raise event fees significantly and hire some help. Local farm kids, kids from town, uni-students, etc.

These are all options we are going to be looking at if no one helps.

I personally hope it doesn't come to that though. We need more participation by the competitors. If we don't make it the "normal" to have more people participating in the admin function of these matches it will die off. Sadly most of the people that want to help are non-members. I hope that by covering their guest passes / insurance for them and getting them to help will alleviate the burden on the core planners.

Covering their insurance pass is a good start. Offset the cost in event fees for those not helping.

If that doesn't make things run smoother, take further steps as mentioned above.

I was informed people left during last match take-down. Remove those who leave from the reported scores.

Just a suggestion, but could the stages not be designed to be easier to set up, easier to reset and shorter in length? I don't think anyone would mind if they shot sooner(within the squad) due to shorter stages and ended a little sooner. For example, one stage could be an "el presidente" with all steel and done with all three guns. No resetting and a fast stage that still has a lot of shooting and could have forced reloads.

It is an option,
But one of the things we love doing is larger, complicated stages. If we wanted static or simple stages there are lots of other matches we could go to for that and not have to do any planning :)

(I think our timing on the last match was near perfect, Ideally when we open the next range up we will expand to 5 stages and attempt to do that in the same amount of time, its all part of the learning curve)
