To be determined. Looking to see what I can dig up but if a CGN sponser <cough> want's to chip in some swag... :)

By definition: 1MOA = 1.047"
A circle with a 100 yard radius (distance from the center to the edge) would have a circumference of approximately 628.32 yards or 22,619 inches (100 x 2 x pi = 628.32 {pi is about 3.1416}). Dividing the circumference in inches by the number of minutes in a full circle gives a value of about 1.047 inches (22619 / 21600 = 1.047). Thus, changing a sight's elevation setting by 1 minute of angle changes the bullet's impact point by 1.047 inches at 100 yards. And the bullet's impact point would change by 2.094 inches at 200 yards (1.047 x 2) and change by 3.141 inches at 300 yards (1.047 x 3).

All over again, i dont think i will have much time this year to play the challenge...
I neglected my LR shooting on my private land and many handguns have to be break in...

Hope i dont get the challenge fever... JP.:d

I still have the winner setups on my KAC SR15 Mod 2 and my FNAR intact, should be easy if i decide to do it again... JP.

I'm building an AR I expect will perform, I guess I'll know for sure soon enough if I succeeded.

This is great I'm looking forward to trying this out with my modern hunter. One thing that confuses me is how to measure the groups. I shot some groups and measured using the edge to edge minus bullet diameter that many here use but I find that to be flawed. The holes are not the same size as the bullet diameter. This gives a inaccurate group size. I found either measuring center to center, or subtracting the actually measured hole size to be much more accurate.
So far I was only able to get around 1.5 moa with 5 shot groups. With some more practice I am confident I'll be able to get under 1 moa. Maybe I'll have to measure subtracting the bullet diameter to make the cut though

Weather has been great... got some time so out to do some testing with McGowen AR15 Match barrel.

Two loads A and B but they grouped well enough to post for this event... Yes, there is a 30cal sighter in the middle of the page. Started with my FTR rifle. If that is a problem, just let me know but I think it is pretty clear to not be a 22cal hole :)

Damn! Nice shoot'n, Jerry! Congrats on being the first on the board for 2016! I'll update the list. Now who's gonna question Norc parts again after this? Equally impressive is you managed to shoot those groups with the trigger lock on! :)

Edit: PM me your mailing address and I'll send you off a prize. :)

It just proves the point:
To get an AR to shoot, all you really need is to float a good barrel (and run quality ammo).

Wonder how many attempts were made last year? I only see three names that got a star, an eye opener for some I'm sure.

Myself i made a minimum of 20 attempts for success with 3 rifles...
KAC SR15... 5/5
AR-10T... 4/5
FNAR... 2X 5/5 ( posted only the best one... Sub .75 MOA, this is the group that decided me to hold out on a MH purchase, the deciding factor is now in the hands of precision)
It take mega concentration, blowing a good group is so easy, imagine 5... JP.

i got a 4 out of 5, ill try again with the same rifle but better optic this year. 5 out of 5 is quite hard, on the shooter as well as the rifle.

Yup, so true. I thought it would be an easy challenge myself but after attempting it a few times... that's a whole lot of concentration involved. All it takes is a split second mental lapse to pull that one shot to make you start over again.

This Norc is my first and only full AR factory rifle... I am a bolt guy as most will know. From new, I have been surprised at how well it has run and how trouble free it has been. Hearing all the problems an AR can have, I have been lucky to not see anything so far... except the mag catch. Doesn't always lock up the way I want and haven't looked for a solution at this time.

The mechanics of the AR bolt and barrel extension has all the makings of the floating bolt head on a Savage so I decided to play with aftermarket barrels ie barrel swaps.

Didn't take me long to find out some real problems in what is considered normal for AR barrel set up. I changed that for this barrel and Mcgowen was happy to comply. This one has shot very well out of the box and I have little doubt it will work with any proper functioning upper.

A bit more then just free floating an AR barrel but it really isn't a huge change from the norm. Just a different way of looking at the problem

Gas management is a big part of this as well as adjusting the buffer spring and buffer.

The final task is proper handloading with accurate bullets. Seems to be working.

I will be testing other heavy but mag friendly bullets soon. Maybe I can get the groups even better????

Jerry

With the bunch of FNAR some dealers sold since the Hollydays, you will start to get those on here, cant wait to see some others punch the 5/5... JP.
