2016 - My Black Rifle shoots sub-MOA groups all day long challenge!

Just wanted to illustrate the 30 Herrett AR I am using for this precision challenge beside some other standard AR Calibers. In the center group are the 30's ranging from 110 gns up to a cast 165. The rimmed cartridge is the original 30 Herrett that I shoot from my Thompson Contender Super 14 and is the origin of the 30 HRA.

The line up consists of a Serria 110 (most recent target), Hornady 110, Hornady 110 (first target), , Nosler 125, Barnes 130, Hornady 150, Speer 180 and the cast 165 gn.

The first is the 5.56 next to the 6.8 SPC, which is the parent case for the 30 HRA. As you can see that with a 30 deg shoulder it has more case capacity over the two 7.62's and that are next to the big boy 308. This added capacity increases the performance over the standard 7.62 x 39.

This is very potent cartridge in an AR sized platform.

I loaded up some new cartridges with H335 to practice for the next go round. This time at 200 yards and a butt stock support, well while I was in between shots I notice more holes on my paper as someone on the line has taken it upon himself to shoot my target. Not the first time. Man if it was an official try I would have been pissed.

The holes top right are his.

Been shooting my new rimfire these days. My Les Baer sits neglected in the safe. Will need to develop some hand loads and try the challenge. Unfortunately, while I think the gun is up to the challenge, I'm not.

Another try today on the 100 meter range but it was very windy and damp after all of the rain the previous two days. 30 Herrett, 110 Sierra Varm, 28.1 gns of I4198 in a Hornady brass and Federal Match small rifle primers.

I have used the program to measure and will upload it to see where it ranks.

Maintaining Concentration is important when shooting at a busy range. Not bad but it appears 1 flyer with each group that I need to eliminate.

Changed the trigger and grip to see if things improved and I feel after today I will lighten the trigger by changing the springs.

Nice shooting! Did you calculate your group sizes?

Well done and especially good shooting for a busy range Sqr, I wish I could say all my fliers were in that tight.;)

Regarding the fellow using your target, I find it best to return the favour with a very tight #10Rd. group or my favourite the classic #8 shot happy face.
In all seriousness that's one of the dis-advantages to the larger ranges like VFG on Vancouver Island where I used live versus the quieter ranges here in BC's interior.

Regardless with fine marksmanship like this I predict it won't be long for you to post up a complete sub 1/2" set of groups.

Cheers D

I know it can get better or should I say "I must get better"

Couple things that may have affected me was the damn wind and crowd. Those guys and their Win Mags and 30 06's being sighted in for the season was distracting.

Been working a load ( 167gr Lapua Scenar) for my DPMS HBAR AR-10 / S&B 3X12X50, did upgrade the trigger to a Geiselle, the last 2 tries got 3/5 sub MOA groups, yesterday got grouping under .75 MOA, 6 times out of 10, ide bet my next try could be the good one...

I will keep you posted...

This challenge is a lot of work to make happen... JP.
