2017 Cabin Fever Challenge UPDATED Feb 18 2017

I've got a Remington 750. Only 2 mags, and that only hold 4 rounds each.

Any insight on the most time efficient strategy to get 5 shots off in each position? Must you complete all 5 shots in a row? Or could you do 4 in each position, then reload for 1 more shot in each position?

have a buddy reload the empty mag while you shoot the loaded one..... switch on reload, this is what I plan to do when I use my SVT 40, since I only have 3 mags currently for the gun.

sounds like ull have to breech load the 5th shot.

Yeah, that's a pain in the a$$ though, cuz neither mag is a "hold open" mag, so breech loading takes 3 hands almost...

First attempt at cabin fever challenge for 2017 with Chinese SKS

Have to try again with some practice. I challenge my liberal MP to take JT out and for them to try it together- and see if the use of firearms for sport, actually corrupts one's sensibility.

That is some fairly good shooting for a stock SKS. Makes my tricked out SKS nervous haha

I went out yesterday to Chilliwack Fish and Game and today at Abbotsford Fish and Game to shoot the Winter Cabin Fever match.

Yesterday I used my AIA Lee Enfield No 4 rifle and Norinco m14. My score with the M14 was 12 hits on target, 1.55 time score of 52.2 with iron sights. I found my front sight on my AIA too narrow to shoot long distance with.

Today I went out with the Norinco M14, Lee Enfield No 4 Mk 2 and a SKS. My SKS target was 10 hits on target, 1.14 time, score of 67.6. With the Lee Enfield I had a great grouping but it wasn't in the 8 inch circle. It was down and to the right.

In both days I fired off approximately 300 rounds. Great to get out in the winter and have fun.

I have the targets, how to I attached them or email them to you.

If the weather is good next week I will go out and try it again.

Great fun.

Man some of you guys got it easy , groomed ranges , grass showing . LOL . Went to my shooting spot and snow anywhere,s from top of my gummy boots to half way up my thigh . So my choices are bow out gracefully , or forge ahead . Looks like I,m headin to Wally World to look for cheap snow shoes . LOL

Im low on snow this year but in the last few years I had to dig out and firm up a shooting position same as you. It was fun!

Second entry for Riflechairs 2017 Cabin Fever Challenge. Shot the first entry with a Mosin Nagant, and scored 41.5 but a slow time of 167 seconds. This time I used a VZ-24 Mauser, with a much faster time, but fewer hits, (8 hits, worst shooting I've done in several attempts at this positional shooting drill) for a score of 36. It was good fun regardless! The Mauser is smoother to load and cycle, but the long sight radius on the Mosin definitely helps with accuracy. Interesting to compare two WWII rifle designs that faced each other in combat on the Eastern Front.

Weather warmed up nicely today, so I thought I would give the 03 Springfield a workout. First time trying to make one of these fancy youtube things and I may have messed it up but it is what it is. Pretty fun regardless.

OKAY .. so I finally got to the chance to attempt this challenge and MAN O MAN, it was a challenge. DEFINITELY need to practice my unsupported shooting more!

But anyways this thread was slipping lower and lower into the depths of this forum so I thought id resurface it by posting a quickly thrown together video of my best submission SO FAR for the Modern/tricked out class. Meet Sasha, my first Russian flame, a highly modified SKS that the Soviet soldier of the 1950's WISHES was standard issue haha or maybe not.

enjoy:

Much respect for those of you who are running the stock SKS irons, in comparison to how hard it was for me to perform the challenge with a 3-9x optic, I can only imagine the skill needed to score what you guys have been scoring with just the plain irons.... GREAT JOB!
