Managed to get a nice jake out behind the house yesterday, unfortunately me and technology don't always agree so no pics. My better half and I will be out in full force this weekend. Congrats to all the successful hunters above and thanks for posting pics
Out this morning for the first time. All went according to plan , except only the jakes and the hens went where they were supposed to go. LOL Had a shot at 2 dumb jakes, 12 yards from me strutting around like they were big ####s. Decided to wait for a bigger tom and so just watched them. In the middle of it, my cell phone alarm for 6:45 goes off. Birds stop dead at the music, turn and look at me, then go back to strutting around. All I could do not to burst out laughing.
Back tomorrow for another crack at the big tom.

She did it! This morning at 9:30 all of her patience paid off. After completing her cfsc, ohep, and turkey course last year at the age of 13 she never got a shot at a bird despite over 40 hours in the field.
This year she was one year older and just as dedicated...opening day we lasted 4.5 hours in miserable weather, the next day we actually stayed out on the ground (didn't use my blind) from 5am until 7pm! No exaggeration, we sat on the edge of that field for 14 hours! Saw lots of hens and had lots of close gobbles but he never came out of the bush.
Today we tried a different strategy - no decoys. I have two avian x decoys and they've fooled several gobblers in the past (and a couple of now deceased coyotes) but I got the feeling yesterday that the hens were decoy-shy and the tom was simply staying where the hens were.
The strategy paid off at about 9:30am this morning. A large hen walked out and not far behind came this big tom. My daughter took him with her 20 gauge mossberg at about 30 yds. He weighed 23 lbs, had a 10" beard, and his spurs were just shy of an inch long. Hell of a first tom! A prouder dad you cannot imagine!

Beautiful bird! Congrats to your daughter... my son and youngest daughter both took their first birds as 12 year old apprentices... I have never been that excited for any animal that I have taken. This is a memory you both will share forever.

It did..... took a new job two years ago.... I have to "plan" my adventures better now and am still getting used to it...
I have more hunting opportunities now for different stuff, but I miss my regulars deeply.... in fact, I can tell you right now where I put a couple of gobblers to bed over the last couple of weeks....
Admittedly, I will rely on chance this season, but will likely end up taking a jake as it presents itself.....it's just nice to get out....
