I’m pleased to announce the season opener NB Precision Rifle Steel Challenge match 18-19 May 2019 at 5 CDSB Gagetown. The match will be shot on the Enniskillen range complex outside Petersville. It’s the same range we used last October.

Based on feedback from last year, we’ll use a 2 day format for matches at Base Gagetown. Day 1 will be Range setup in the AM, followed by an open zeroing/practice session in the PM. Day 2 will be the actual match.

Match fees will be $10 for the zeroing/practice session and $20 for the match. You are not required to shoot both days.

I’m planning on a total of 3 matches to be held on CFB Gagetown, the dates for the other 2 matches are still being confirmed, likely mid summer and early fall.

I am also planning a few shoots for Springfield, dates are still tbc.

I’d also like to run a rimfire match or 2, most likely to be held at Springfield, if there’s enough interest.

Please post any questions and if you know anybody interested let’s get the word out.

Thanks

we were able to add another match to the schedule, to be held Sept 22

There’ll be a stage with targets out to at least 1000m. Round count will between 75-90 rounds. I’ll confirm the course of fire (cof) and round count a week or two ahead of the match.

We’ve been able to add a 2nd match July 13-14 on CFB Gagetown. It will follow the same two day format as the May shoot.

These are military ranges so the dates may change due to military requirements, but so far everything looks good.

On a side note, is anyone local familiar with practiscore?

Thanks

Thanks for the interest. I could use few extra volunteers if anybody's bored next weekend and is curious.

Just a reminder its a 2 day event. You're welcome to shoot either day, or both. Saturday will be range setup in the morning and open practice in the afternoon. Sunday will be the match. Range gates will open around 9am Saturday and 8am Sunday.

I'm going to post the tentative course of fire to help everyone plan things out and get some rough ideas for their ballistic tables. I found last fall I didn't give people enough time to figure out firing solutions.

Planning for 8 stages, time permitting. Squads will self RO where possible. Stage descriptions are brief and ranges are estimates. They will change depending on the ground.

All stages will have a 2:00 time limit.

Stage 1 - Tank Traps 8 rds total, 4 from each position. 1 target @ 450m

Stage 2 - PRS skills stage 8 rds, 1 target @ 360m

Stage 3 - Rooftop 12 rds, 1 targets @ 400m, 550m, 700m

Stage 4 - Culverts 10 rds, 1 target @ 600m

Stage 5 - Strong side/ weak side prone 8 rds, 1 target @ 500, 1target @ 700

Stage 6 - Chains 10 rds, 1 target @ 500m

Stage 7 - Send it 10 rds, 4 targets @ 1000m

Stage 8 - Mid range find your limits 10 rds, 5 targets @ 500m

Ranges are estimates. They will change, maybe as much as 50-75m. Any questions let me know and I'll try and answer.

Planning to be there for Saturday at least, hopefully Sunday as well. Gates are open at 9 and 8, is that when it is starting, or just starting to get set up/registration at that time?
I assume same procedure as last year to get a pass for the range?

Will anyone be bringing a chrono on Saturday by any chance?

Here's a better schedule for the weekend. I'll be there around 9am on Saturday, if anybody wants to help setup. You will need a pass from Range Control. You can get it either on base or from the commissionaire at Camp Petersville. The pass may take some time to get depending on how busy they are.

Saturday
9AM - Gates open around, range setup begins
1PM - Open practice begins

Sunday
8AM - Range gates open
830AM - Registration
930AM - Range brief
10AM - Match begins

This range is taking place on range E2 in Enniskillen, located near Camp Petersville. Camp Petersville is located off exit 51 on the #7 highway between Oromocto and Saint John. If you’re not sure where it’s at, I’d suggest googling it.

To get to the range, drive out the Enniskillen road (opposite direction of Camp Petersville). Once you get past the moose gate, just keep driving straight. I’ll have a couple RNBRA signs posted. E2 is located on the right as you drive down Enniskillen rd, about 4.5km from the moose gate. Please close the moose gate behind you as you enter the RTA.

Thanks for all the help with setup today, we had a great afternoon on the range. Weather mostly cooperated and we managed to ring some steel.

Gates open around 8am tomorrow, registration from 830-930. Range brief at 930, rounds downrage at 10am. If you’re running late try and let me know and we’ll try and accommodate.

Edit: sorry about the photos, I can’t figure out how to rotate them.

Thanks to everyone who made it out this weekend, the weather wasn’t great but mostly cooperated. A big thanks goes to Peter and Steven at Hirsch Precision for providing the use of a terrapin x and sweet Swarovski spotter. The terrapin is a nice piece of kit. Another thank you goes to Range Control, they’re always professional and extremely helpful, we couldn’t run matches like this without their cooperation.

Congratulations goes to Tony P who shot the high score yesterday.

I think someone figured out how to game the 1000m stage.

Are the dates confirmed for the next match in July?

I had a great time and looking forward to the next one. Anyone wanting to try out PRS should come down and try it, everyone is very helpful... I learned lots during the 2 days. Very well run match, BBQ lunch was a nice touch.

Thinking those nice tumbling impacts at 1000m were mine with my 20” barrel 223. Probably ran out of steam... Will be shooting 6.5x47 Lapua next time.
