2021 Wild Turkey thread

Will likely go turkey hunting this year for the first time in several years in spite of what King Dougie says. Need to start scratching off things on my ol' bucket list & more hunting is one of them.

Haven't seen many wild turkeys out so far - usually see quite a few on the way to work in the morning (Perth County, Ontario). Several other friends & kin also mentioned a lack of turkey sign in the usual favorite hunting spots. Anyone else noticing a lack of turkeys or greatly reduced numbers?

Nope...lots of birds everywhere I look. Lots of birds where I hunt as well.

What I've heard from a few cop buddy's no one is enforcing the stop on side of the road.

I'm only 25 minutes from my camp but have to drive right by the OPP station to get there, luckily I don't pass the Tim Horton's in town.

Lol sounds like we hunt the same place. I will be on the 416 which is opp patrolled, and the back road route takes me past the opp station. My lack of a front plate will give away my cross borderness.

As far as turkey visuals, i normally start seeing turkeys on cam by the first week of april, still nothing yet.

Been seeing lots in my area of swo. Sometimes a few flocks of 5 or 6, sometimes 2 flocks of 30ish.

I havent been seeing many in my area but coons and coyotes are at all time highs. Unfortunately ive only had time to get out for coyotes once which resulted in a nice big female that i must stretch n scrap today

Was up at the farm this morning getting my gear set up for opening day and I saw quite a lot of birds on my drive. One field had 6 strutting Toms on a couple hens. I got my blind up and finished cutting and cleaning my trails so everything is good to go. In checking my game came footage, the big flock of birds has finally broken up. I have 4 hens regularly roosting on the property and yesterday had two Toms looking for the hens. Lets hope they pay me a visit in 7 days!

Very good news. Now comes the emotional rollercoaster known as the opening week turkey season long term weather forecast.. gets my blood boiling every year.

Up to 10cm of snow tonight and tomorrow and what looks to be a cold wet/snowy opening day, it will get interesting. I’ve battled snow for the last two seasons and it both were very successful. If the same weather hits us this year, I hope the outcome is the same

Woke up to a little more than expected snow here, but it won’t last too long. Would be a great last minute scouting opportunity since fresh tracks will show nicely.

I was inspired by squidxm and picked up a couple of GoPro cameras. I’m going to try and get some action on film. Would be great to get some footage of a Tom charging in and stomping my decoy before I paint the floor with its brains
