2021 Wild Turkey thread

My daughter and I had an amazing morning! Heard our first gobble while she was getting set in the blind and I was putting out the decoys. Could hear 4 gobblers in the woods behind us and another far off in the woods opposite us. By 9 am we still hadn’t seen a single bird and I was starting to wonder if we would. But not much after 9 we had two hens pop out a hundred yards away or so and we watched them walk across to the next fence row. The rye grass was knee height in spots, so if they didn’t have their heads up to look around they vanished from view.

At about 9:30am two birds show up on our right at about 30 yards; big birds but not strutting and no beards that I could see. They approached the decoys and as they came to about our 12 o’clock position the wind caught their beards! Turns out they were toms but the wet grass not only obscured our view, it also matted the beards to their bodies while they were walking into the wind! I quickly turned on the go pro and you can watch what happened next.

I thought it is illegal to party hunt for turkeys in Ontario? Is it only for like pushing, like driving deer? Does that just mean you can't use someone else's tag while hunting with them. Sorry I'm just confused, nice hunt!

Firearms
Wild turkeys may be hunted using shotguns (including muzzle-loading shotguns) or bows. For additional details on firearms and ammunition requirements, see the general regulations section.

Other regulations
Party hunting is not permitted for wild turkey. You are permitted to call wild turkeys for another hunter after filling your own tag(s), but you must not be in possession of a firearm when doing so. It is illegal to use live decoys or electronic calls while wild turkey hunting in Ontario.

what you saw in the video is not party hunting.. its two people (side by side), with two tags, and 2 birds down.. if they had one tag amongst them, and they were in different blinds, then that would be party hunting..

Thank you for clearing that up! I wasn't sure it just mean tag sharing. Thanks again!

I'd say it's a little more a "gray area" than cut and dried. If they had both fired, no problem. Sure it happens, and looks like a great hunt.
However, you can't shoot someone else's turkey for them.

The rules around "party hunting" are laid out in the general sections ( to which the people in the video are not doing) so if they aren't party hunting then there is no rule stating that they can't do exactly what they are doing soo. Hence it's legal.

Here is another situation. There is no rule saying I can't put my tag on someone else's turkey if we are in the same blind ( both have tags/guns. There nothing saying that it's against the rule for one person to shoot but the other person use their tag)..

Yeah edited my post, didn't see the second gun initially, looked like one shot double. Carry on.

Sounded to me (and looked like) 2 shots were fired.
You just can't see the other shotgun.
Birds were way too far apart for it to be 2 birds with one shot (in my opinion anyway)

Nice shooting, nice to have family time in the blind.
Good for you.

EDIT - we have armchair EVERYTHING on CGN. Doctors, Lawyers, CO's CFO's, you name it we got 'em

Beat the buzzer.

He was around for an hour with a bigger bird... I waited, but never got what I consider to be a quality shot at the big one, so said "screw it" at 1845. I think the one I got this morning may be his buddy.
