Well got out yesterday before first light. Two buddies with me. One has never harvested a bird the other quite a few. First stand took a while but the hens I called in brought in two nice Toms with them. Watched the show for quite sometime hoping the Toms would separate giving both guys a bird. They didn’t wanna split up so experiencevd hunter dropped the hammer at 22 yards. Back to the house to clean the bird and regroup. Try calling from a few spots with no responses. Check out a farm and see a nice Tom in the middle of a high field separated from an equally sized field with a ridge running east to west. Enter the lower field and set up on the ridge. Not ideal but our only choice without being seen. A few en yelp and some purring and the Tom comes running over the ridge almost into the lower field. Now at 5 yards on the left side of the inexperienced turkey hunter. With patience and what seemed like forever the strutting Tom headed for the decoy in front of the now successful turkey hunter. Bird was shot at 6’yards. First bird and it was double bearded, larger beard was 4.5”and the smaller one 2”. Great day
