I know in BC it is discouraged due to "unique Viewing opportunities" - but I think many hunters revel at the thought of bagging a critter that is Interesting AF. Like an boar who is riddled with battle scars, or that buck that may not score well but due to some mutation has really weird antlers. I guess what I am saying it doesn't bother me that a white moose was shot so much but the fact that the moose was mostly wasted...what a shame. On another note, the key to creating a black market is making an activity illegal, how about intruducing a very small scale LEH so those who want to hunt such an animal possibly can (numbers depending).

Kind of sad how most of you here don't know the law you claim to abide, or are commenting way out of your jurisdiction.

It was illegal to hunt white moose in the area it was killed, hence the outrage. Even then, leave the white moose alone. If you know they're sacred to a local tribe, then what do you expect other than grief from everyone around you.

Geez, and people wonder why hunting is a dying sport, or why it's so hard to find private land to hunt on.

While I realize it's only two WMU's with this law, it's still ridiculous. A moose is a moose no matter what someones religion tells them it is. I guess all the anti hunting crowed now have to do is claim religious status and then lobby the government in the hopes of banning the hunting of ducks or rabbits being so damn cute and all, who needs to kill these divine creatures?

The government and natives don't give a rats ass about the things that I consider sacred, why should I care about their sacred things? Besides, they consider ALL wildlife to be sacred at one level or another. Should we quit hunting all together? The white moose gets a pass, so why not the average deer? Sacred is sacred...

The fact it was illegal in that area means I wouldn't shoot it. But take one step past the WMU boundary, and BLAMO!

Given the legal opportunity I would shoot.

The animal while amazing and rare, is just an animal, and I would much prefer a hunter harvest it than a truck take it.

Ridiculous or not, it's the law of that land and it was broken. The natives were taking it fairly well though, it's the media (as usual) that blew it out of proportion.

But careful with your logic, it was used to ban baby seal hunting so not unprecedented to go after the rest.

A few years ago, as i was coming out of the local tim hortons.
I noticed a mooserack in the back of a truck,
as i got closer i saw that the mooses nose and about halfway up the face was all white.
I did not seem to bother the 3 natives that shot it. It was a really nice bull

You can get a tag for a moose, the personal restraint comes in when you make the choice not to kill a unique one. You shouldn't shoot a white moose because we don't need to kill anything and everything interesting. Half of being a sportsman is having a respect for nature and all the weird and wonderful phenomena to discover therein.

On the other hand its a genetic mutations which lowers the overall survivability of the moose herd. Ontario is struggling to get its moose populations under control, should we be protecting animals that hurt the herd?

It will be a surprise if the culprits are FN.............Like the time they were killing eagles for their feathers in BC.It quietly went away.Nothing to see here.
