22-250 for deer

using 70gr hornady gmx at 3300fps should be able to take deer pretty easy?

Are you asking or telling ;) ?
Is .22 Caliber legal in your Province and/or hunting area ?
I had one for awhile , but decided to move up to a larger cal.
I know of guy who shoots 218Bee at Sydney Island deer at impressive range (island landing strip) and they fall over dead.
So, yeah the right bullet and the right spot and you are golden...well maybe your golden if the moon and the stars align.
Tight Groups,

Assuming your rifle is twisted fast enough to stabilize that bullet I see no reason why it wouldn't work. We've got people on this board who have used lighter bullets in the 223 and successfully killed deer and black bear. IIRC one guy DID use a 22 hornet about 8 years back...

22-250 is real popular in the north for things like Caribou. As long as you can put the bullet where it counts its gonna kill.

The 22-250 drops Deer like they were hit by Lightning. Not sure if your gun will shoot such a bullet as the GMX though.

22 Hornet works on Deer too, the reason the 22 Rimfire was banned for hunting in BC was as a Roadblock to those of lower Socio-Economic status.

The only guys that will tell you the various 22 Centerfires don't work are those from Jurisdictions that ban them.

Long as you got the twist rate you'll be set.

A good option if you don't have the twist would be a 55gr Sierra Gameking #1365. Or even a 55gr TTSX. I know the box says you need a 10 twist but Ive shot them out to 300 yards in my 14 twist and they're just fine.

Since SK has changed the law ive always wanted to take my 22-250 AI or 22-284 out and try them out with a 75gr Berger. But I always end up grabbing my tried n true 270 or 257 bee.

It will work in the hands of a good shot who is intelligent enough to pass up a bad angle or hurried shot. There are better choices though to my mind.

Stevens 200 has a twist of 1 in 12 and I can put 3 rounds of 55gr power shok in the lid off a timmies cup at 250 yds

Is that what you're planning to use? Because Hornady calls for a much faster twist than that. Running the numbers through Bergers spin calculator, anything less than a 9.5 twist is unstable, and you're in the marginally stable range with both 9 and 8 twists at 3300fps.

Well said. I would even extend this advise to the 243/6mm, especially at distance.

Its good advice for any bullet/caliber. That said, if you're gonna take a less-than-ideal shot with a 22cal, a 70gr monometal is going to be one of the better options to do it with.

No disrespect, but since when will a 12 twist not stabilize a 55gr lead bullet in a 22-250? Power shok is federal blue box, just a standard cup and core lead bullet. A 12 twist would be just fine.

Whats a timmies lid? 3"-3.5" thats MOD (minute of deer). Put it in the boiler room when he's broadside and you'll be fine.

my friend has shot deer with his 22 250 with a 55-grain soft point bullet. He says it sure does a lot of damage.

I'd use something heavier than 55grn myself unless you are sticking with a monometal bullet. Even then I'd go heavier, I admit I have no experience hunting anything bigger than a coyote with something as fast as .22-250 though.

22-250 will KILL DEER great with that 70gr GMX bullet But there’s no hope of your 12 twist of shooting them accurately . I BET you they will TUMBLE ! That bullet needs a 8 twist to perform . Use a Barnes 50 gr TTSX with your 12 twist rifle ! RJ

I have shot them from 14 twist 22-250 and they grouped MOA . Good Bullet BUT i like the TTSX better . RJ

Partitions and Accubonds i've found don't shoot "1 Hole" the best i've ever got out of either one was 3/4" at 100. And thats a few different cal's. No matter seating depth, powder charge or type. But again, they aren't a "target" bullet. Not saying guys havent got them to drill a hole, but in my experience in the 240 wby, 243 and 270 wsm the best they did was 3/4". And for most if they shoot 3/4"-1" at 100 thats good enough for deer. Either or the Partition or TTSX would be just fine for deer. More and more guys are using their 22-250 and 223 for deer in SK, especially for new shooters who are scared of recoil.
