Hey guys. I've only ever shot one coyote before today, and that was with a Lakefield 64B with CCI stingers.. Years ago at 35yrds.

Well I finally went out and bought a Savage 22.250. I dialled it in with the cheap winchester 45g JHPs. I put it about 1" high at 100yrds.

I went out and got a box of Winchester 55g Ballistic Silvertips. I checked the Trajectory and according to the Winchester App, they were almost identical at 100yrds.

So I went out yesterday and NO luck. I called for hours. Nothing.... Tried calling this morning in a few spots, nothing....

Today I went about 200kms in the opposite direction from where I was yesterday. At 11 am I thought I seen a crow in a field.... Nope, coyote just waking up, and stretching. 600yrds out with high wind. I had to pass as I had NO idea how much the bullets will drift.

Later I see something on the snow that looks odd... 1000yrds out, a coyote. Tried calling but NO luck....

So at 3pm I'm heading down a desolate dirt road in the middle of no where, when I crest a hill and damn, there is a nice size coyote about 150yrds out....

I put the cross hairs on her, and tired to woof to stop her. Nope she was having none of it, kept running. I kept the sights right on her and pulled......

Dropped like a TON OF BRICKS!!!!!!!!

I paced it out, 210yrds on the run. Winchester 55G Ballistic SilverTips did there job VERY well!!!!!

You will see, she was a very healthy 35lb+ Female.

You can see where I hit her on the left side, and exploded through the right front shoulder.

Good shot. I wore out a few barrels with this round in the 70's and early 80's, would like to get another someday but i'm playing with the 17 and 20 calibers right now.

the 250s are pretty bloody decent, a fellow I know uses it for Fallow deer, now before anyone says anything..... the riles been on the family property for years an has accounted for many many deer....

Its also the go to gun for Wild dogs which are the size of that critter you shot.

Good job!

Thanks guys!

I'm still super stoked about the shot! I have always read that the 22.250 was an amazing varmint round. I had always wanted one, and glad I purchased one. I got the gun at Wholesale Sports for $400. Can't beat that price for what you get... a damn accurate rife!!!!

I'll be out as much as possible this year for sure!! You'll be sure to see more pics from me!!!

Good job wheeler. Your Savage should treat you well. I have one in .243 and it has been excellent on coyotes also. It shoots 55gr ballistic silvertips very accurately. As a matter of fact, it dropped another coyote this morning at 170 yards. DRT. No exit either. enjoy your 22.250.

Nice seeing guys skinning out here for a change, best part of the story and you made a good shot to boot. A lot of folks shoot things they don't even know how to skin, you are of the other sort and a digital high five to you.

+1. Agreed.

Usually if you miss the first shot they get sprinting full tilt life or death, at this point I found you must lead and lead some more.

I would agree! IF she was full out run, I would have lead on er.

In my head I was fully prepared to start slamming rds if I had to. Not to say I'm a bad shot, as I like to think I'm pretty good. I was just unfamiliar with this gun. Practice makes perfect.

My first buck I took at 438yrds. One shot dropped him with a Federal Polymer Tip 140g.

I'll be out every chance I get now!
