Been a long time since I followed anything on air rifles and bought a Diawa model 34 way back maybe around 1990 which I still have
It was one of the first 1000 fps guns I seen at the time and it still looks and works very well

However it is time I think to treat myself to a new 22 cal air rifle but have no clue what to buy
I would like something 800 fps min if possible and not break the bank

What would you guys suggest. Thanks in advance for the help
Kind Regards
Joe

Depends on your budget really. I bought an Air Arms S-410 PCP carbine a few years back and if you do your part it will put all 10 shots into one ragged hole at 25 meters. Stupid quiet and top notch build quality from the UK. There are cheaper PCP rifles as well but for a bit more these will last you a long long time.

Not into the pcp just an old spring style would do me just fine
Cheers

I suggest going the way of a nitro piston rifle instead. All the characteristics of a spring gun without the added weight and no spring sag as the piston uses a nitrogen gas ram which is very consistent. If your serious about airguns you can’t beat PCP though

Understand but I would not class myself as a serious air gun shooter. The old 1990 34 in 177 does me fine for what I do with it . Just like to find out what is there in 2018 similar in a 22 of a different make
Cheers

Why not a Ruger Air Magnum (around $220), I have one in .177 and I really like it. Powerful air rifle and if you want more power a Benjamin Trail NP XL but they are more expensive, the Trail NP2 is another one. The NP's are nitro piston but the Ruger is a springer.

Cool. I am not up to speed on a nitro piston how does it differ
Cheers

Be aware that the rated velocities are usually with lightweight alloy pellets, not with standard weight lead pellets. The difference can be over 200fps. My Air Arms TX200 produces under 700fps with 14.9gr pellets, and is extremely accurate.

It works like a gas strut(shock absorber), the compressed gas inside works like a spring.
They usually have less vibration than a spring, and can be left compressed without damage.
They can unfortunately, leak down(over time) and loose energy.

Understand now. Thank you for taking the time to explain

Thanks. I wonder if the rats will know :)
700 with a 22 is Ok for me

X2 on an HW springer for long term simplicity and reliability.
A bit more challenging to shoot then a PCP but nothing that the right technique can't overcome. The gas ram's are interesting but a good springer, with some spare springs and seals will last a couple generations.

I bought a Chinese Remington Express synthetic in .22, and installed a diana 34 kit. Same internals. For just over $200 I've got a fantastic Rat and pigeon gun. That's the cheap route. But if you have the budget, go for a real Diana 34.

OP has a Diana 34. See first post.

I'm a diana fan so am wondering why you would want something else in a springer. I understand getting an under or side lever gun or something like pcp or nitro but don't get the "more of the same" idea.

I want the 22 caliper and wanted to see what else is out there other than diana . Thinking maybe something better/ cheaper or in the same price range
I have not looked at air guns in 28 years so figured things have changed big time since I bought the 34 in 177
Cheers
