.22 Dilemma

I bought a Marlin XT-22 with a hardwood stock back in December, but sent it away for warranty replacement because the pre-drilled scope mount holes and dovetails were horribly off-centre. Took forever for Remington to send new ones to the agency handling their warranties in Canada, and when they finally did come in today, all four of them had the same problem.

So now my options are:
  1. Wait for another shipment of them and hope one is good.
  2. Take one with a synthetic stock instead.
  3. Take one with a hardwood stock in .22 WMR instead of .22 LR.
The intended use is mostly target shooting at a 75-100yrds, introducing the gun-fearing to target shooting, and very occasional varmint control.

Trying to decide between waiting who knows how long for another shipment to come in (apparently Remington isn't making them right now); taking one with lower value (only $10, but still) and not as nice-looking but chambered for the cartridge I want; or one with higher value and the look I wanted, but chambered for a much more expensive cartridge.

Option 3 isn't an option, forget about it. You'd be better off shooting .223
Option 1 is ok if you've got a big stash of ####, cause you ain't going shooting.
Option 2 is a compromise only you can decide, but that's what I'd do.

Why can't the dealer take your hardwood stock and put in on the synthetic receiver, or is this to simple?

I suggested that, but they seemed to think that wasn't kosher for some reason. I think I'm gonna ask for my money back and get a Savage Mark 2. Just trying to decide between the G and the BV.

Its too bad they will not accommodate you by switching stocks, especially since you have already been patient with their quality issues. I just purchased a 795ss and had to un-box 4 before we found one that was close enough the gun smith could fix. Marlins quality control seems to be pretty much non-existent these days. Shame. I would avoid the .22 Mag, at around $20 bucks for 50 it ruins one of the best things about .22RF, the relatively low cost to shoot. If you like the marlin go for the synthetic stock. If it turns out to be a firearm you truly love, upgrade it to a Boyds stock in the future. Take a hard look at a used CZ before you opt for the Savage. If none of this works, definitely the BV.

Gravel refused to refund. Replacement or substitution only. Last time I ever buy anything Marlin/Remington.

The next shipment comes in a month from now. If none of those are good, I'm taking the most expensive option they'll give me, and making a trade post in the EE.

Bummer, I picked up an xt22 with the heavy barrel and synthetic stock. It's been pretty much spot on, I'd take the synthetic stock replacement and either sell it or trade it for something else.

^likewise. 22WMR is a great caliber, but more $ and more "oomph" than you need for target shooting. 22s will handle lots of pests, not as many as the 22WMR will..so your call. If you don't have a .22, focus on that. 22WMR is more of a hunting caliber to me. Too pricey for blowing holes in pop cans.
