22 LR gouging

It was only a few years ago when I purchased several cases of SK and RWS ammunition for around $500 per $5000, and a case of cci standard velocity for $350, and people thought that I was wasting money buying better quality rimfire ammunition. Now those same people are paying almost as much for low quality bulk ammunition, and I still have plenty of ammunition on hand.

Recent (few dayz ago) Can. Tire purchases: 2 x 300 rnd Choot em CCI @$29.99 ea. (Last 2 boxes) & Federal Target Grade Automatch 325 rnds @$26.99 .. 2 months ago got Rem Vipers @$39.99 per brick & Fedal white box @$29.99. Havent seen any issue/shortages in my areas still...

I just picked up two 500 round boxes of Winchester hollow points for $27.99. When the cashier went to ring them through they came up as $33.99 which I imagine is their new price. She corrected the price and rang them through at the sticker price of $27.99. I just smiled and gave her my cash. I have about 6000 rounds now. The most I've paid is about $33/500 So I'm not getting excited about the shortage yet.

For future reference, when this occurs you are supposed to be given $10 off the first item. This is legislated in the Consumer Protection Act and this information should be posted at the register.

Actually...lol..for reference..he actually is $2 ahead. Would have ONLY been off the first one. (from $33.99) He got 2...x $6 off....yada yada..

You get $10 off the corrected price. The first one would have been the sticker prices less $10 so $17.99 and the second one would have been the sticker price of $27.99.

There are small towns in the US that treat 22lr as currency , and xm193 5.56 as well. You can trade and barter with great leverage.

Well whatever, I guess ask next time it happens is my point. Most stores have a sticker outlining their scanning code of practice.

So several board sponsors all started threads today about getting a bunch of .22 in stock.

Is the drought over?

Or how long do you think till the hoarders clean them out perpetuating this cycle?

We've got a new generation of hoarders. They learned the hard way. There will never be stocks of .22 ammo, as we once knew.IMO

The availibility of .22LR throughout the summer seems to be increasing, as are the prices.
Looks as if the costs we are seeing for 22LR is "the new normal".
