Without starting the .22 caliber deer debate, Has anyone used the 60 gr partition for deer(island Blacktail). I am sure it would be the best hunting bullet for the 22-250 and 220 swift velocities.

22-250

If you shoot this rifle and cartridge well, you'll have no trouble with Blacktail or any deer for that matter. I have a friend that uses this caliber on all his deer, loves the rifle and is an excellent shot with it. I have seen him take mule buck with it at 320 yards, deader than a smelt, one shot. FS

I call.........:bsFlag::bsFlag::bsFlag::bsFlag:.....320yards..........:runaway:

Barnes makes a X-bullet in that caliber as well. Probably would have better weight retention than the Nosler, even if it starts out at a lighter weight.

My experience is that the NP at high velocity will shed it's front core, guessing about 30% of it's weight, at impact. In larger bullets that's not necessarily a bad thing but with a 22 you'll want to maintain every grain to ensure necessary penetration.

Either bullet will first of course have to fly well oout of your particular rifle.

Where is this going on? That caliber is illegal for big game (deer) in Alberta.

I know a fella that has used the Partition on Deer from a 22-250.
It Kills just the same as anything else.....he has told me with nice broadside shots it usually exits the offside of the ribs.

Obviously no shoulder shots or tough angle shots....shoot sensibly and they will Kill Deer without a doubt:wave:

If I had to use a 22 Cal on deer though I'd look long and hard at the X Bullets though;)

My experience with the Partition at high velocity was not what I liked. I got my animal but the bullet blew up badly. I think their are better choices for the 22.250.

I've tried the Barnes X in a 22/250. The flyers drove me crazy, so I ditched that ideal.

I'd too would like to hear about the Noslers from people that have ACTUALLY shot a 22cal Partition from .223 or 22/250.

While we're on the .22 Cal subject a Close Bud of mine shot a Cow Moose in his backyard with a 22 LR in his younger days........it died.

For those that are curious Yes he was charged and they did indeed take away the Moose:redface:
Dummy......

Im sure the 60 grain Nosler will work fine in most cases, but it would take a back seat to the Barnes 53 gr TSX if I was going to push a 22 caliber rifle into action on deer

I have shot a few wolves with the 22-250 / 60 grain Partition setup. It works VERY well. A lot of people are hung up on the cartridge rather than the bullet. It is not the CARTRIDGE that kills an animal it is the BULLET that cartridge launches.

I would have no hesitation about shooting a deer with the .22 calibre Partition if the proper broadside shot presented itself.

BCWill, There have been more than a few moose shot by natives using the 40 grain solid point bullet launched by a .22 rimfire. As they are only impacting at around 800 - 900 fps they don't rip the hell out of the bullet. The small diameter slug then penetrates like hell. 2 or 3 bullets through both lungs will usually have the moose laying down within a couple hundred of yards.

The nosler will do the trick.
Swift has a 70gr Scirrocco in .22 also.

Yes, but the Scirocco will not stabilize in most 22-250s as it is too long. The same is true with the Barnes I tried in my rifle. The great thing about the 60 Partition is that it is shorter than the 55 grain Ballistic Tip that shoots so well in most 22-250. If your rifle shoots the 55 Bt it should also shoot the Partition.

I have never used a 22-250 for deer my self but seen more than a few flattened by them! Actually I have never seen a deer wounded or get away shot by a 22-250 but they were controled shots at close range, not that I am promoting a small caliber for it.
A very nasty little cartdige, I have no doubt it would work!

I was going to shoot a bear with the 53gr TSX, in my 223. Unfortunatley, no opportunity presented itself with a suitable bear at a suitable range, when I had the 223 with me.
