.22 postol

That is loaded question here, new , semi auto , revolver? budget?
As a old guy, I don't car much for plastic .
The rugers are good, no experience with the newest model.
I am a Hi Standard fellow, but those are all used.
The S-W model 41 is a great pistol, older is better, expensive, the new victory model seems good, you can mount a scope/ red dot on it, but if you are a new shooter, get use to open sights.
The browning buck marks are fine, I don't really like the looks, just me.
If you want to start out with our spending a bunch, GSG's are O.K., but they are not steel and will not last, O.K. lots of guys will say I am full of it, but been working on H,G,'s for 50 yrs.
The Russian Vostok MCM is a great pistol, sometimes find one for about 300.oo
Revolver, S.W. model 17 is great, colts are a collector item, so cost is too high
Ruger makes good revolvers also, the single six is great if you want single action, but slow to load
Just a few suggestions, like I said, you have to give us more info, on what type you want.

A revolver is best. And Smith and Wesson made a great revolver, but if you go for one, get the Pre-lock version.

If your budget is lower, go for an Alfa Proj.

I have found the Ruger MKiii to be an excellent unit. IMO .22 pistols are best suited with the internal bolt design as opposed to a reciprocating slide. My little Ruger ate everything I fed it.

Smith and Wesson Victory is reliable for me so far with all kinds of ammo

See the Ruger Mark 4 too

I also want to purchase a .22
I have a 9mm Glock 17. Thinking about a semi
Maybe model 1911. Aparently GSG makes most of the 1911's for other companies. I like the preloaded mag instead of a revolver, however i have read most experienced shooting enthusiasts prefer revolvers. Can anyone explain why? Just wondering before i purchase

I like the GSG pistols, they are not bad for the money, if you want a semi. Revolvers are a lot of fun too, and you can find some nice ones, I like the S&W 617 .22 they are very nice to shoot.

SIG 1911-22 works good for me so far. Needs a tool to disassemble, but works fine.

Revolvers are great, reliable with all types of ammo. Make sure the grip on the revolver is comfy in your hand.

A hi end 22 semi auto is as good as a revolver, maybe better, we are talking match guns; both will shoot way better than anyone other Olympic grade shooter
A semi is faster, with spare mags, that is the main thing, I shoot a revolver better most of the time. It depends on the fit and what you like, as much as the gun type.
Where you will see a huge difference is when you get into center fire, as a rule a good revolver will always out shoot a semi.
Hi end semi-auto will shoot super as well, I have a Norinco 1911 45 with a bunch of work in it that will shoot with the 3000.oo ones.
GSG makes the 1911 22's for the other company's, You can get a GSG top end if you have a 1911, cheap, I have never sold / used any, Had a colt 22 conversion unit years ago, nice to have, but as someone side, not much point having all that steel sliding around on a 22 when a 22 bolt works better, and you have a good solid fixed barrel.
Bit off the track for your question, the only 22 conversion unit that is 100% seems to be CZ
New midrange " quality" Ruger Mk 3,4, buckmark, s-w victory, I may be forgetting something; These are all single action target guns, but not match grade ; and the GSG if you want.
in long run the GSG will cost more than the others .
There are double actions ones out there, I don't know about some , some I know are trouble prone

^^^^ Thats one of my favorites, they are extremely dependable, and shoot any type of ammo. A great value when you can find them.

I still have the 6” S&W model 17 target masterpiece I bought new in 1974. As I recall, I paid a bit more than $300 for it, so it was a pricey gun for the time. Dead-nuts accurate. SA trigger pull at 3.5 lbs, crisp and sharp break. Beautiful gun to look at, fun to take to the range. It outshoots almost anything short of a full competition gun out to 50 yds. It was the first handgun I ever owned, and what followed was a decade of buying different guns at increasing prices looking for something that shot as well in a bigger caliber. It wasn’t until I bought my first race gun. 5% better for $1500 more.
If you can find an older model 17, you cannot beat’em
