22 precision

Kristian, I haven't looked at it too closely, but what's holding the butt pad in place on the Scorpio's, was it easy to remount the pad after you shortened the stock? I was thinking that I would prefer it if the stock was an inch or so shorter..... :)
There's just some little plastic tabs on the butt pad, and bumps inside the back edge of the stock that hold them in place. I think there were two on each side of the butt pad, and I used a small flathead screwdriver to pry the sides of the stock out a little bit. I cut a section out just ahead of that, then glued it all back together with JB weld. I can take a picture of the butt pad taken off tomorrow.

Haven't had it out in a few years but I used to shoot some really tight groups with a heavy barreled BRNO #4.. A very traditionally looking rifle. Walnut stock and the barrel looks parkerized finish. Military trainer? Built in 1956.

Thanks Kristian! , It's nice to have a bit of a hint when dealing with hidden fasteners and tabs... :)

Just keep in mind you get what you pay for in the world of 22s but a 457 and or tikka T1x and maybe even a Bergara BMR. You won’t find yourself regretting either of the three Great rifles
So don’t go expecting CZ 457 accuracy from a savage mk II

i mean, the 1/2" challenge list will say otherwise.

The Savage MK2 TR shoots pretty good. Talked to a member that just bought one and It would easily make the 1/2" club.

I got a Anschutz and my Savage MK2 FV SR is pretty accurate.

Oh ya they’re ok rifles but for PRS such as CRPS and also ORPS and even long gong challenge there’s a reason the PRS world is dominated by the cz 457 and T1x. And of course excluding the Rimx and Vudoo types.

Now that we've figured out a short list of precision .22lr rifles.... how about we make a list of ammo capable of matching the rifle's potential if the shooter is up to it?

Maybe the OP will weigh in on how much he hopes to spend on ammo for his kid's rifle, I know myself I get excited when a .22lr shoots "well" with more common and what used to be considered inexpensive ammo. Sure there will be some flyers but that the price you (don't) pay!

Today brought my Savage Mk2 FVSR at a local club rimfire shoot. Came 2nd with it. Behind 1st by a point.

Mind you it was a metalic silhouette type shoot. So off hand, no support.

i like the Savage for this type of shooting because it is light. Both my Anschutzs are over 9lb.

But gotten 1/4" groups at 25 with my Savage. Doubt ill make 1/2" club with this model, but be close. For 350$ I think it was a good deal.

i think alot goes with the CZ, or T1x due to the whole prs scene and the availability of parts.

doesnt work that way! Rimfire accuracy is so heavily dependent on the ammo.

Tac22 which people love, turns my T1 into a 4moa semi auto on target. I switch to SK and can shoot 0.7 moa 5 minutes later.

CCI SV is what I consider to set the bar as it shoots about the same in everything I've owned so far.

It sure is.... arguing about which accurate rifle is the most accurate is just the first step.... :)

My vote would be for CZ 457. Off the shelf most shoot extremely well. Then if a further upgrade is desired, a Lilja drop in barrel is an easy DIY upgrade as well as various trigger parts. Anschutz are great but pricey, that being said though Prophet River has several 64 action models on clearance right now for a great price as this model is discontinued now replaced by the 1761 action.

or have you consider the anschutz 1416 or the more expensive 1903 they both come in a soft grip stock . both are very nice for BR shoot or more it up a bit and try field precision shooting

I think that if you hgave to buy a Lilja barrel and upgrade the trigger? Well the Annies not far away in price. I know where my money would go

True but the Lilja barrel would likely be a little better than a mass produced factory barrel even if it is Anschutz. I personally would also go the Anschutz route myself, but just an option for someone on a budget not wanting to shell out $2500-$3500 right off the bat, just saying.
