.22 rimfire for Coyotes?

You will kill them most of the time with a .22, it is just that they won't die where you shot them. More than likely, they will day in the next area code.

I used CCI stingers, the "Segmented Hollow Point 32GR" to kill two poultry killing stray dogs on our farm (about the same size as coyotes). It was a very, very bad experience. Not enough penetration and gastly painful wounds. Never again! Use enough gun!

Very poor choice not enough energy with any type of load 22 lr is barely efficient on gopher size game show some respect for the creatures you hunt and use a cartridge that has efficient ballistics to make clean kills.

I guess I'll have to time travel back to the 80's and inform the 3-4 coyotes I killed with a 22 that they weren't supposed to die.

Lots of better choices but used within it's limitations it works fine.

I guess that's why a lot of farmers use 22's to kill livestock.

Why do people on the interwebz think every question must have an all or nothing answer? Pickles, I don't think most people are saying a .22LR can't kill a coyote. It certainly can (and animals much bigger). But is it the best choice? No. Are they many, many better choices? Yes. Fair enough?

I wouldnt...reason being the first Badger I shot I hit it in the body at about 60-70 yards with a 22. The thing turned and looked at me and then ran away, i chased him down and finished it off with about 10 more shots with my 10/22. I felt horrible.

Coyotes are bigger and just a tough, unless you head shot them I would go bigger.

Slaughtering livestock is quite different from hunting. Unless you can shoot a coyote in the forehead from a few feet away, .22LR is definitely not the best tool for the job.

Read the second line of my post.

You do get your panties in a bunch huh?

It was the first line (and I quoted all of your post) that was useless to the discussion.

Oh, relax. :p

I bow down to Canada's greatest coyote slayer and utmost authority on suitable coyote cartridges..;)

Curious as to how many coyotes you've taken over the years?

Geez, you're awfully predictable. You know that 'UFO' seen over Newfoundland a few days ago? That was me kicking another coyote in the ass, and sending him into the stratosphere. I'm practically McDonalds for coyotes: billions and billions of Bergers have been served. If you like the .22LR for coyotes, have at it. I think the OP who asked the question gets the message from many folks other than me. :D Now, please stop PM'ing me asking me about the color of my panties. :p

It can be done, but just like when you go the bar and the really skeezy overweight drug addict cougar trys to go home with you remember just cause it can be done don't make it right!;)
