Recently received a FX Panthers 700 for Xmas from my wife. I’ve been playing with 33gr HP and sighting it in with a Kahles scope. Experimenting with pressures and speed. They shoot in a tiny hole at 50 yards at 975fps. I bought three types of slugs with all being .218” diameter. I bought some of the Zan ELR coated 34.6 gr and was really disappointed in their terrible performance. Was wondering if anyone has had the same experience. The HN are way cheaper and shoot fantastic so I guess I shouldn’t worry about it. I also have some lighter Nielsen’s that I haven’t tried yet. What are you fellow nutrs finding that works for you ?? Thanks and I’ll give them some testing. What are you running for glass. I’m planning on using it for competitions so basically want to duplicate what my Vudoo is capable of! Good ammo is becoming difficult to aquire so the PCP opens another door..

My bad, it was the M4 Sniper 700, not an M3. As for the optic, I am running a Element Titan 5-25x56 FFP in MRAD. Scope has been outstanding for the last few years. So much so that I just put on an Element Helix 4-16x44 on a Umarex Gauntlet SL30 (haven't had a chance to get this one put thru it's paces yet though).
Mine runs the Javelin's right at 920fps with my setup. I could speed them up, but the gun likes them at that speed.

Well Im definately going to give those Javelins a thorough testing. Good to get a report on the optic as well. Will be looking into that as well. Where did you purchase the Element Titan from?

I have a M4 700mm sniper I purchase this past spring and I have a question about shooting slugs. Did you purchase a dedicated slug barrel or did you use the factory barrel originally shipped with the rifle? Thanks.

Factory barrel. Seems to do fine with the NSA slugs. I may look into another liner in the future if I decide to explore a heavier slug option, but for now it seems to be working great. Like I said above, there has been no issues ringing steel out to 400 and I can probably go a bit further, but the wind sure does stir things up at that distance. You can either have a great day ringing steel or if the wind picks up it'll be a day of watching for the splash in the dirt.

Well I picked up a bunch more slugs at AGS yesterday with a shooting buddy who had his FX gun repaired. Talked about this subject and Travis said slugs in lighter weights will work out of the pellet liners/barrel. If you want to shoot the heavies he recommends getting a slug liner. My buddy is going to try the lighter slugs out of his gun. I also watched a YouTube video and the guy was shooting pellets out of the same rifle as mine and getting impressive accuracy out of a liner designed for slugs. Part way through his review he realized the gun was designed for slugs. Some interesting stuff.

Not seeing your locations, we may meet some days for fun BR shooting?
I have a Impact MK2 originally, but with all the diy internal upgrades I think I can call it MK3.5 :)
I have couple set of liners in .22 and .25 three or four twist rates I believe.
I was shooting/testing .25 slugs @ 100m during covid time, I wasn't really impressed with .25 ZAN so back to MK1/MK2 pellets, as is my setup currently.
Read couple times @ AGN the competition shooters talking about Altaros slugs. Not a business case for me I am a large volume shooter :)

I’m in SEOntario about two hours east of AGS.I bought the Panthera to use in CRPS,Outlaw and NRL matches. I had no idea how much fun these are and how accurate. I’m tired of trying to chase down quality ammo for my stable of rimfire guns. Pellets and slugs are easy to find and waaay cheaper than high end Eley,RWS and Lapua. Shooting ten or more thousand a year is not cheap either. Next investment will be a big tank for refilling. My buddy picked up one of the smaller CF wrapped units at AGS and man are they light in weight. I looked up your Leishy gun. Wowzers that’s quite the beast. Very cool

Chris…watching all the responses to your post with great interest. Nice to see other hardcore air-gunners in here. Excluding my springers our experience with PCPs and pellets are my son’s FX Impact, and my FX Crown and my RAW in 25 cal.

We tested a TON of Neilsen slugs in just about every weight and diameter combination available and also purchased a liner intended for slugs. Groups were shot at 75 yards at different velocities and it was difficult to match the accuracy performance of standard JSB and H&N pellets….I literally threw out a couple hundred dollars worth of Neilens into the lead melting pot. Then my heros Matt Dubber and Ted Holdover started playing with the Javelins that came along afterwards and I was intrigued with their results BUT I didn’t ever revisit the slugs again. The primary reason for me was I shoot starlings and pigeons inside of dairy barns and the added weight of slugs and the velocity you have to push them to becomes a liability with over penetration of the birds and damage to metal roofs. Not to mention lower shot count per fill and the louder bark of the report. But I think you are on the right track for 50 yard target shooting and gunning for gophers in Sask !!!!

Somewhere about 2018-19 I ran into one auction sale from a firefighters department in GTA.
Picked up these four 14 Liter scba for maybe $150 total. Each topped up to 280-290 bars holds 800+ shots.

Along the time I replaced the valves to DIN, traded two tanks with a friend but later bought one more 9 L Acecare. Filling with HongHeng currently about 70 hours run time in it, rebuilt the high pressure head so far two times.
I am tethering my BR setup Impact MK2.
Over a busy season usually I do ones a month a full day workparty every 2-3 weeks. Trying to keep one tank fully charged all time for "emergencies" :)

What speed and weight are you using in your 22 pellet killing machines? I fired 18 of the Nielsen slugs today just to get the velocity numbers but no bench or paper target but shooting offhand off the back steps at my resetting deer target. Was only 40 yards but fun. SD was 1.9 and ES was 6.7 and average 973.3 fps. Lots of experimenting to do. Lots of fun

Im shooting the JSB 18.1g pellet in my FX Crown at 740 ft/sec. Travis at AGS replaced some “O” rings and put in a new regulator and tuned/set it to 1000 psi. I run the dials on the .22 mark and at level 1. Speeds were confirmed with my Oehler 33 crono.
Am getting over 170 shots per fill out of my 480CC bottle. Accuracy is a ragged one hole group at 50 yards.

Andrew’s FX Impact is running the JSB Hades pellet (15.5g ??) at 800 ft/sec. Im actually surprised how accurate and effective that silly little cross pattern configuration on the nose is on pigeons and starlings. You can hear the plop on flesh when they hit and it carves out quite a wound channel in the breast meat.
All the Neilsen slug testing was with his Impact and we ran the velocity range all the way up to 950 ft/sec with both the standard barrel and the smooth twist longer barrel that was being promoted for slugs at the time over 5 years ago.

As an interesting aside I imported an AirArms Pro Sporter .22cal from England in around 1999 and never had great accuracy with that FT rifle with the pellets available at the time. A buddy that had a Corbin swaging setup made me some slugs and they were doing 1” groups at 50 meters at an indoor club, far better than the Crosman Premiers that were the rage at the time. Air Arms had their own brand of pellets but they were soft and badly damaged by the time the got shipped to Canada. Latter found out they were made in the Czech Republic by JSB. Have fun with your new toy. I’ll set up a long distance starling shoot for you at one of my diary operations this spring.

Well that’s interesting but I have another gun that I’ll be using for pigeons and starlings. It’s shooting Barracuda Match 21.14gr at 840 but can be turned down and I think you’ll recognize this AirArms S410 SL Xtra Fac!! Haha
