I'm looking into buying a new 22 WMR - had my eyes on a Ruger 77/22 Mag, but can't justify the heavy price tag.
Recently picked up a Savaga 93G at the local gun shop - a nice looking no-frills gun, but it didn't quite feel right (length of pull was short, felt 'unnatural' when shouldered). The price is right though @ $275 tax included).
I've been to the Marlin, Savage, Winchester, Remington and Ruger websites, and most of the bolt guns seem to have the same size dimensions as the Savage. The 77/22 Mag seemed to be a little larger gun. Switching away from bolts, an alternative to the 77/22 Mag would've been the Win 9422, but again it was pricy. I wish Marlin offered a lever in 22 WMR, but they don't.
As for bolts, although I prefer a clip, a tube mag doesn't bother me all that much. I'd like to keep the price around $300 so that I can top it off with a decent 4X scope.
I'll primarily be shooting at groundhogs (from about 80 yards) and targets at the range. I have an older Mossberg semi with a small 2.5X scope on it, but I'm not into semi's and I never pass up the chance to ge a new toy.
Any recommendations on a reasonably priced, better fitting solution? Anyone know of a gun that definitely feels 'better' than the 93G? (a bit of a weird question there)
And although I've given very little detail, are there any general thoughts on what old Mossberg semi's fetch in a sale. It may not be in new shape, but it is in decent condition, it works well and has seen relatively little use compared to most other shooters on here - maybe 250 - 300 rounds. I'm not exactly sure of the model # as I locked the gun away a few years ago and haven't looked at it since. I will take it out and get more info today.
Thanx.
