222 rem carry around rifle

A few folks have mentioned going Tikka but in 223 but what many people don't know is Tikka still makes a factory 222 that is an amazing packing rifle. I have one and between all my varmint guns it gets brought out most often when coyote hunting.

Nobody here mentioned Anschutz. I have a CIL / Anschutz model 900, it ticks all your boxes. Wonderful rifle. I sold my Sako vixen after realizing I did't use it much, was always taking out the Anschutz. You should be able to find a good used one for $800 or so.

I had one one of these also. I have a Tikka T3 in 222 now and it is extremely accurate but it is noticeably heavier than the Anschutz. For a carry rifle in 222 I would go with the Anschutz. I wish I hadn't sold mine.

Both my 222 are full sized, long action rifles. Heavy guns, but I like them that way.

ssshhh… don't tell 'em about the CIL/Anschutz... I need to get a couple more before the price goes up!!! ;)

You know folks it's quite interesting the low but constant support for varmint cartridges such as the 22 Hornet and 222 Remington.
Goes to show varmints haven't changed nor has shooting distances at trigger time.
Just send that SPSX or Calhoon hollow point to the vitals and then it's game over.

I read on an American gun forum a well heeled gun collector stated his Remington 788 in 222 was actually more accurate than his highly expensive H&K PSG-1.

This could be hard to prove but equally hard to disprove given the reputation of this Remington rifle and cartridge.

My model 700 is a little heavy for a walk around gun, although I used it lots for that. It is a heavy barrel. It is very accurate. I have 2 223s, a Ruger #3 and one built by Mystic on an axis action (going to sell as I do not ever get to shoot it). Of all the cf 22s my hornets get the most work outs.
