comments please:) the reason i ask..i have a 222 but i dont hear much of it..but a ton of stuff to be found on the 223..
or should i own one of each?
 
Those in the know will say that the .222 has an edge in accuracy. Most shooters probably wouldn't know the difference..... But you can pretty much obtain factory .223 anywhere ammo is sold. Probably lean that way. But, I'd get a rifle in .222 if the deal was right, though. ;)
 
i bought this gun...just for a plinker for the kids to learn with.. but im the one getting the lessons to learn of another cal..thanks all for the help here:)

im not worried of ammo..as this gun is an experiment,for not only teaching the grand kids to shoot...they will also get lessons on how to reload the shells they have fired off..the first few hundred round are on me to get the brass...after that its more time spent getting to learn the fine arts of reloading ,for them:)
 
I have a .222 and I love it. It used to be more popular, but the .223 has taken over because of cheap ammo. In the field there really isn't enough difference to worry about.
 
Well I have heard nothing but good things about them ... never shot one yet.
I have had a couple of them in my hands... nice smooth bolt actions... decent triggers.
 
I shoot both.
The .223 will give you about 100-150 yard aadvantage, but has much more availability for ammo.
The .222 has a longer neck, which somee shooters think is more desireable for BR stuff.
History has proven them wrong however.....

Shoot it until you burn out the barrel. In a .222 that might take a while. Then re-barrel it to a fast twist .223. The only problem with most .222's is the slow twist and the need for light bullets. Now a .223 with a 1:8 or 1:7 twist will shoot 80 gr bullets way out there.
 
is it normal with the 222 ,to have a ##### of a time to get dies and multi stage shell holders?or am i just having a bad week...i got a new set of dies on order, then i got a set on order throught the ee.. but im having a hard time to get the multi shell holder
 
223 will outrun a 222 about 200 fps with bullets from 40-55 gr

a 1:14 twist on the 222 will limit bullet choice to 55 gr, case capacity makes bullets from 40-50 grs most attractive.

223 can be two different cartridges really. a 1:12 varminter, or a 1:8 long range target round. a hell of a cartridge!

I have a friend who shoots a 340 Sav in .222 and it just loves to eat 50 TNT Speers with 19.4 gr of IMR 4198.It prob has had close to 4 or 5 thousand round thru it and is still very deadly.
I myself have a Sav 340 E in a 22 Hornet and it too is a sweet gun to shoot.
 
I shoot both, I would give the accuracy edge to the 222 (it ruled BR shooting for a long time). The 223's big advantage is that it was adopted by the US military, thereby becoming overwhelmingly available. In my particular rifles, they are within 100 fps of each other, and with the 1-12 and 1-14 twists you're limited to the lighter 22 bullets anyway. FWIW - dan
