I was at Cabela's and they have the Winchester 40 round value box of JHP 45gr on sale! This particular ammo shoots like laser beams (1/3 moa from sled) from my 1:12 twist vanguard and at $0.49 per round it's about as cheap as it costs to reload...

Normally $31.99 (27.99 at WSS) on sale for $19.99.

I bought 10 cases :p

Brass: .09 (LC)
Powder: .10 H335
Primer: .04
Bullet: .25 (Win 46gr HP, most comparable bullet)

Total: .48 if you buy brass.
These numbers include tax but no shipping so you have to be able to buy local. Add an average of .03 per round for shipping charges.

So yeah, his numbers are pretty close plus you don't actually have to do anything :D

And his are actually .56 ea when you add the tax.

If it costs you much less, I'd like to know where you shop so I can stock up.

It's costing you $0.49 a round to reload 45gr .223? Yikes.

Actually more.

Prices taken from WSS:

brass 100 223rem winchester $31.99
= 31.99 cents each

cci small rifle primers 100 $3.79
= 3.79 cents each

sierra 45gr bullets 100 $21.99
= 21.99 cents each

1lb H335 $25.99 (270 rounds per can at 26gr)
= 9.6 cents each

TOTAL to load: 67.37 cents per round

MORE if you take into account your case lube or if you're being picky, hundreds of dollars of reloading equipment...

cheaper to buy loaded factory ammo....plus you don't have to buy enough powder to load 300 rounds just to reach your level of economy.

And his are actually .56 ea when you add the tax.

What? Who the hell pays 12% tax? Not me. Cabelas and I are in Edmonton. That's 5% tax here.

Note that the same tax applies to reloading supplies so it is completely irrelevant.

Note that it costs 51.77 cents to RELOAD that same round above - as in with used brass. Of course, that ignores the fact that you still had to purchase the brass at some point and should spread the cost of that purchase over how ever many loads you get from it. Let's say you get 5 loads. That's 6.4 cents. 58cents to REload ignoring all your equipment costs...49cents to buy retail.

I loaded up 1000 rounds of Nosler Ballistic Tip 50gr rounds last week. My costs were as follows:
Brass: .09 (LC)
Powder: .10 H335
Primer: .04
Bullet: .29
Total .52 after tax.

Thing is, they shoot better than anything I can buy in store and with a progressive press it doesn't really take that long. It took me about 5 hours. So if you factor in my time then you can add another .21 cents per round.

Anyways, I still have a tonne of the 45 grain value packs since the last time Lebaron had a sale. I think I paid the same as you did, though that was back in 2006 or so. I don't really shoot them much though.

Well, I don't use other people's used brass.

Even if I did, I haven't been able to handload anything as accurate as these $19.99 wonders for this rifle. They're damn accurate and seem to have a reputation for it.

I've handloaded some 45gr sierra and some 50gr ballistic tip varmint and haven't been able to achieve the same accuracy as these cheap little factory rounds!

P.S. don't forget to amortize the cost of your dies, case lube, press, scale, thrower, trimmer, deburring tool, etc etc etc ;)
